India is exploring ways to placate the US after President Trump’s surprise 25% tariff threat, including increasing imports of US natural gas, communication equipment, and gold. Officials, shocked by the move, are avoiding immediate retaliation to keep trade talks on track. Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal said the government is assessing the impact and will act in the national interest. The US had a $43 billion trade deficit with India last year. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent blamed India for stalling trade negotiations.

Tensions between the U.S. and Russia have intensified after a fiery exchange between Donald Trump and former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev. Trump gave Russia a 50-day deadline to agree to a Ukraine peace deal or face harsh economic consequences. Medvedev hit back, mocking the threat and referencing Russia’s Cold War-era “Dead Hand” nuclear system—a doomsday device that could retaliate even if Russia’s leadership were wiped out.
