Continuing from yesterday's post, we highly recommend watching a short YouTube video about the issue of post-quantum cybersecurity.

Currently, users' data is securely protected by RSA-algorithm encryption, which cannot be hacked by even the most powerful supercomputers in a million years. However, quantum computers have the potential to break this encryption within the next twenty years. It would only take thousands of physical qubits to determine multiples of the RSA code.

Although modern quantum computers, such as IBM's 400-qubit processor, are not yet powerful enough to achieve this, it doesn't mean that users' information is completely safe. Malefactors could employ a long-term strategy of "store now, decrypt later," which could prove remarkably effective.

The video by Veritasium explains how quantum computers could be used to break information security and why engineers need to think in terms of 1000-dementional space to avoid potential security breaches.
Scientists decide whether we are alone in the universe

They use machine detection to identify eight previously undetected "enquiry signals" from about five nearby stars.

The team worked on the Breakthrough Listen project, a privately funded project looking for technological developments among the 1 million nearby stars, 100 nearby galaxies, and other Milky Ways.

As part of the project, they applied the algorithm to a preliminary study collected by the Green Bank Telescope in the US. Already analyzed are 150 terabytes of data representing observations of 820 nearby stars.”

Business world brought us two inspiring cases from Australia

South Australia’s Department for Education has been using Microsoft products for improving education and develop outcomes for young South Australians.

Its System Performance division uses a platform edAnalytics Hub by a tech provider Exposé to leverage the full power of data analytics for educational purposes. Woolworths is expanding the rollout of its self-checkouts using cameras and artificial intelligence in stores across Australia. The self-checkouts use camera vision and AI to detect when items aren't scanned correctly. If a product is not scanned a short video is replayed for the customer on the self-checkout and the customer has an opportunity to rescan it.

It was first trialed at one of Woolworths’ store a year ago but is now being used at more than 250 stores in three Australian states.

Italy's Regulator Bans Use of OpenAI's ChatGPT Due to GDPR Compliance Concerns

"ChatGPT is such a buzz!" everybody says. "ChatGPT is such a threat!" says the Garante per la Protezione dei Dati Personali.

Italy's privacy watchdog has ordered a ban on the use of ChatGPT, an AI language model developed by OpenAI, due to concerns over its compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

The regulator cites concerns over the large-scale collection and processing of personal data that occurs when using ChatGPT, as well as the potential for the model to produce inaccurate data. The ban was specifically targeted at a project being conducted by the Italian Army, which was using ChatGPT to generate responses to inquiries from the public.

In March, OpenAI confirmed a data breach caused by a bug in the open-source code of GPT-2. It allowed unauthorized access to OpenAI's internal system, and as a result, some sensitive data, including email addresses, names, and some payment information, was accessed by an external party.

Atlassian Intelligence, an AI assistant for Jira and Confluence, is out

Atlassian has unveiled its "virtual teammate" Atlassian Intelligence. It runs on both the company's own model and a model from OpenAI.

Atlassian Intelligence is capable of summarizing, searching and creating content. It works in conjunction with Confluence, a workspace for creating a single knowledge base for the company. The assistant can refer to this database to find the necessary information and, for example, summarize a meeting, make a transcript of the conversation, and then highlight the list of decisions and actions to be taken.

Atlassian Intelligence can also search for the necessary terms in the company database and define them, as well as show which projects it is associated with and which teams are working on it.
Finally, the assistant can ask work-related questions, such as: "How do I set up the development environment?" The AI will answer with the information in the database in mind.
