"ጌትዬ በማርያም!" አለችኝ
የደረቀ ስንጥቅ እጇን - ወዳይኔ ጫፍ ሰንዝራ
የተዝረከረከ ያ ቆንጅዬ ልጇን በእጆቿ ጠፍራ
''ጌትዬ'' አለችኝ አንዱን ምስኪን ባርያ

መንገድ የጠፋበት መሄጃውን 'ማያቅ
ሰው አገኘሁ ብላ የሚያበራ ድቅድቅ
መች አወቀች እሷ የስልኬን ውስጥ ድብቅ
እየተከተለች ትለምነኛለች ይቺ የኔው ቢጤ
መንገድ ያከነፈኝ ሁል ጊዜ መጤ
መንፈግ ያስኮፈሰኝ - ጌታ የጠማው ለት የሆንኩኝ ኮምጣጤ
እኔ ደባብቄው አፍኜው እያለሁ ሁሉንም በውስጤ

በእናትየው ስም ለምና - በልጅየው ስም ጠራችኝ
''ጌትዬ በማርያም በማርያም'' አለችኝ
ማርያምና ልጇ ማናለ ቢራሩ
ለሷ እንድደርስላት ለኔ ቢለመኑ ?

'ማርያም ትስጥልኝ' ልበላት ወይስ ልጇን ልጥራ
አላህ ይስጥሽ ልበል ወይስ ኪሴን ላጥራ
ጌታ ተብላለች ልቤ እንዴት አትፈራ
ይች የምርያም ወዳጅ እኔን ጌታ ብላ

ጌትዬዋ ሆንኩኝ ባስረገዛት ወንዱ
የበላይዋ ሆንኩኝ ጠቦባት መንገዱ
እኔስ ጨልሞብኝ ጠፍቶብኛል ገዱ
አለብኝ ቀጠሮ በ'ለት ሃያ አንዱ

የምድሩን ህግ የናቀ የሳምዩን ላያከብር
እንደ ክቡር ዳኛው ልንገራት እንደምን
መጥሪያ ተቀብዬ እንደምሄድ ችሎት
እንዳለብኝ እስር

መንገዴን ሰርዤ ከኮንትራት ታክሲ
በሚኒባስ ልግባ እንድሰጣት ሳንቲ
ወይስ ሚኒባሱ ይቅርና ከቶ
በባሱ ታጭቄ ልስጣት አንድ መቶ
በእግር ብጓዘው አልደርስም ከችሎት
ወይ ጌትዬ መባል ጌታው የረሳን ለት!

Under the title 'Art of Less', On the grind presents a visual art exhibition by Milkyas Abdukerim experimenting with concepts of simplicity.
As part of a Franco‑German collaboration, and with the aim of supporting the rise of alternative culture/arts in Ethiopia, the 3rd edition of the ON THE GRIND festival of 2021 is taking place all across Addis Ababa. The festival is organized by the Alliance Ethio-Française together with the Goethe-Institut and partners.

The Ethiopian Poetry Slam will happen at Shifta Restaurant on 22 May 2021. The event will have contestants showcase their poetic works to pick the first Ethiopian national poetic champion to represent Ethiopia at the 2021 African Cup of Slam Poetry. Doors will open t 2:00pm, the entrance fee is ETB 100. @linkupaddis

ጸሐፊው ነቢይ ነበረ፣
ብዕሩ ቀለም ተሞልቶ
ልቦናው በሀሳብ ታጭቆ፣
እንዲጽፍ የተፈጠረ።

አንጋሹ ቀቢው በርክቶ፣
ከፍ ከፍ አድራጊው በዝቶ፣
በእብሪት እንደተበተ፣
ጥቂት መስመር እንደጫረ፣

በሆነ መድረክ ግረጌ፣
ጭብጨባ ጨፍልቆት ሞተ።

ዘመን ፈልፍሎብህ፥
ጅራፍ የጨበጠ፥ ክፉ ተጣማሪ
በተቀኘኸው ልክ፥ ገዳይና ማሪ
መቀበል ያስጠቃል፥ አቀብል አዝማሪ።
..........አቀብል...እንካማ...
.....||ዐይን ሰርግ ሊሄድ፡ ሲኳኳል ቆቡ ስር
.....ማን ይየው የታቹን?
.....ደምቶ ማለቁ ነው፡ አፍንጫ በነስር።||
የሚያዘንቡብህን፥
ስንኞች ወጥረህ፥ በማሲንቆህ ቆዳ
የሚቀዱብህን ፥ አዙረህ ብትቀዳ
ጥያቄ እንደፈራ፥ ሰነፍ አስተማሪ
ምላሹ ጅራፍ ነው፥
አትቀበል ተወው፥ አቀብል አዝማሪ።
............አቀብል... እንካማ
.....||እንደአረፋ ሙክት፡ ልክ እንደዒድ በሬ
.....ሰርክ የሚያሳርደኝ፡ አለመሶበሬ||
የመንደሩ ወግ ነው ፥
ግንድ እየደበቁ፥ ንፋስ መማገሩ
አቀባይ እጅ እንጂ፥
ተሸካሚ ጀርባ፥ የለውም ሀገሩ
ብልጥ...ሁን ... እባክህ
ገንዘብ እንደሌለው አራዳ ቆማሪ
ሳትሰጥ ሳትቀበል፥
አየር ባየር ብላ፥ አቀብል አዝማሪ
............አቀብል... እንካማ
....« በሳቅ መፍረስ የሚል ፡ ፈሊጥስ ነበረን
..... ፈርሶ መሳቅ ደሞ፡ ማነው ያስተማረን?

I looked at her, I see your reflection in her eyes,
I told myself you found another victim

The flicker of trust that you offer
The promises that you made, cuffed her
The hope that runs through her vain
I felt it,

Your momentarily satisfaction
Your endless need of validation
Your being prisoned her in terms of your condition

She feels obligated to satisfy your vanity
Sadly, the notion about one day you will be hers made her heart aches
Yet she killed parts of her to keep you smiling

Then I saw you, In your eyes there is only illusions of her,You never sure

Even when she's standing wearing red dress, bleeding love in drizzling night
She fall to be enough in your eyes,

ያ'ንተም ቃል!
ከነፍሴ ማሳ ይፀድቃል
የንፋስ መንገድ
የብርሃን ሞገድ
ቃል ተመስሎ
ውበት ተኹሎ
ሲገለጥ በተስፋ አምሳል
ካንተ እኩል ይተካከላል
እምነት ባንተ ይበረታል
ኹሉ በቃልህ ይረታል

Pain augments the depth within my poems
Peace of mind lets my words breathe
I want to keep writing
I must
Somedays I will tell you about my bruises, the tears I can’t cry away, the grief pressing on my chest, and the breaths I hold to punish myself
Other days I will tell you how life is so good with a cup of tea in your hands, love in your heart, yellow before your eyes, sun kisses on your skin, and music in your head
And dear reader,
I don’t mean to betray you by the latter
I will always remain a poet
In peace or in pain.

Our dreams are wet contrary to our realities.

To a habit i couldn't left completely
Like talking in darkness
Like Crawling back to a lullaby
Like running to the water
Because sometimes that's how i remember to feel.

And to the things i 'almost' have
Like the chatter of a wind
The enchant of a river
The laughter of a child
I wanted to tell them no,
I'm not nostalgic, I don't have anything to shed for a different time continuum, yet everything for a different space continuum.
