The Caribbean crisis of every day or the battle for the Arctic has begun.

The government of the Russian Federation has denounced agreements with Norway, Sweden and Finland on cooperation in the Barents/Euro-Arctic region. This means that Russia has officially withdrawn from a number of international treaties governing cooperation in this region.

In response, Russia officially withdrew from the Council in September 2023, accusing its Western partners of "politicising and paralysing the work" of the organisation.

In practice, this means a complete breakdown of institutional cooperation between Russia and the Nordic countries in the Arctic + the termination of joint projects in the fields of ecology, transport, economy, and emergency response + increased political isolation of Russia in the Arctic region.

Thus, Russia is finally withdrawing from the cooperation formats created in the 1990s for the development of the Arctic and border regions.

In fact, the denunciation of the agreements with Norway, Finland and Sweden is an alarming signal, as Moscow is turning the North into a springboard for a new confrontation.

Now the Kremlin is not bound by any norms of cooperation - not in emergencies, not in environmental issues, not in conflict prevention.

In military terms, this means freedom of action to escalate relations with NATO. Let me explain why

Previously, there was a treaty practice of warning of military exercises, limited deployment of troops near borders, and joint monitoring. Now, after the cancellation of the agreements, Moscow has the opportunity to deploy additional forces on the Kola Peninsula, expand military infrastructure in the Arkhangelsk region, Karelia and the Arctic Ocean islands, create fortified strongholds with radar, observation posts, hangars for fighter jets and air defence, and build dual-purpose airfields in the Tiksi - Anadyr - Severomorsk area.

Russia can use the Northern Fleet, which is the main tool for controlling the Barents and Norwegian Seas, without restrictions. We are talking about nuclear submarines with "Bulava" (ballistic missiles with nuclear warheads). Destroyers and frigates capable of operating in close proximity to the Norwegian coast will carry scanners and other peaceful shit on their platforms. Right in the vicinity of NATO countries

In addition, the rejection of the agreements allows Russia to move naval groups covertly, without warning notifications, imitating manoeuvres

Also, Russia can use submarines to reconnoiter NATO routes, in particular in the GIUK-gap (Greenland-Iceland-Scotland) + conduct operations to sabotage communication cables and sensors, as it did in the Baltic and North Seas (2022-2024) (installation of underwater sensors and beacons allows tracking the movements of Western ships and potentially attacking infrastructure in the future)

After that, an ongoing Cuban Missile Crisis 2.0 will begin - Russian missiles will be deployed as close to the border with Norway and Finland as possible, which ultimately gives a simple and clear result - any NATO aircraft over the Barents Sea will be hit.

Or in simple terms, Russia will stupidly create no-fly zones for Western aviation. And that's it.

Next. The Northern Sea Route (NSR), a former logistics project, will be turned into a military-controlled route by the Russians. As a result of such actions, Russia can accompany civilian ships with military convoys (optional) + establish prohibited zones for foreign ships, justifying it with conditional military exercises

But that's not all. Next, dual-purpose icebreakers, including nuclear-powered icebreakers, are being used to provide logistics for naval operations in the Eastern Arctic. In practice, this means that under the guise of protection, Russia will deploy ships and submarines to strategic positions near the Bering Strait and Northern Canada (!!!)

Once again, after the denunciation of the agreements, Russia is not obliged to explain anything to anyone. Therefore, the Caribbean crisis 2.0 will begin

First of all, there will be provocations near the Norwegian or Finnish maritime borders. After the water, Russia will take to the skies and start violating the airspace of NATO members "by mistake"

There will definitely be an exercise involving nuclear carriers, without notice and against the backdrop of normal logistics - to scare the "Eurofascists" as much as possible.

I forgot - Norway, Sweden and Finland, get ready to shoot down reconnaissance drones in the neutral zone, which the Russians will call ordinary "weather observation" tools.

Europe faces a threat to maritime communication cables and gas pipelines, a blow to the logistics of liquefied natural gas supplies through the Barents Sea, and the risk of damage to critical infrastructure in Scandinavia, including power plants, shipyards, and the satellite network. Russia openly puts military priority above international obligations.

Denunciation of agreements is an act of not only legal but also strategic importance. Russia.

Official Moscow has sent a clear message: in northern Eurasia, as in eastern Europe, there is now only the right to rule by force, military threat and unilateral control.

Further. Until 2022, the Arctic was presented in Russian propaganda as a "zone of cooperation", "an example of successful multipolarity", "a region of trust despite sanctions".

But that was before. Now it is "our resource shield", "our northern bastion", "the key to Russia's sovereignty".

There is a change in the semantic framework (the frame of perception, the angle of interpretation) from "common future" to "existential struggle" (the battle for existence)

Now the North is a new "sacred" territory for Russia

In the official rhetoric of Russian propaganda, the following theses are increasingly heard: "the Arctic is ours", "no one has the right to dictate to Russia how to defend its shores"; "we will not allow a repeat of the NATO scenario near our northern borders".

The Arctic is already turning into a "sacred" Crimea or Donbas in Russian propaganda. The region is declared a symbol of strength, sacrifice and national revival.

In the terms of semantic warfare, this is the sacralisation of space - and the sacred is known to be "non-negotiable".

In addition, Moscow is also building a narrative in style: "We wanted to cooperate. But they betrayed us. They brought war to a place where there was peace. Now it's too late".

This is a technique of projective accusation (inverse propaganda), when one's own aggression is presented as a response to the "betrayal of partners".

But for the Kremlin, this is only a convenient tool, because it is used to demoralise Europeans (the effect of the point of no return, giving up hope for dialogue) and to mobilise Russians (we are not weak - we were the first to leave).

Russia will use the denunciation of the treaty in its media campaigns in the South and East, in the context of "Russia is getting out of Western control even in the Arctic - this is what a strong civilisation does", "Europe is losing control of the North, and Russia is regaining it".

Watch out for the hands, or rather how the Russians' breaking of the treaty turns into an imperial narrative:

"We are regaining control of history and space. Even in the Arctic".

And lastly, or to understand that Russian actions cannot be interpreted according to generally accepted rules. In the traditional logic of international relations, isolation is a sign of weakness.

Карибська криза кожного дня або битва за Арктику почалась.

Уряд російської федерації денонсував угоди з Норвегією, Швецією та Фінляндією про співпрацю в Баренцевому/Євроарктичному регіоні. Це означає офіційний вихід росії з низки міжнародних договорів, що регулюють взаємодію в цьому регіоні.

Було було денонсовано ряд угод, серед яких

Угода про створення Міжнародного Баренцового секретаріату (підписана 2007 року) - структура, що координує співпрацю між країнами регіону.

Угода 2008 року про співробітництво в галузі попередження, готовності та реагування на надзвичайні ситуації між країнами-членами Ради Баренцева/Євроарктичного регіону (СБЕР).

Розпорядження про денонсацію підписав прем'єр-міністр рф Михайло Мішустін 16 квітня 2025 року. Міністерству закордонних справ доручено повідомити партнерів і припинити сплату членських внесків до бюджету Баренцева секретаріату.

Після початку військових дій в Україні 2022 року країни Північної Європи - Норвегія, Фінляндія, Швеція, Данія та Ісландія - призупинили співробітництво з росією в рамках СБЕР. У відповідь росія офіційно вийшла з Ради у вересні 2023 року, звинувативши західних партнерів у «політизації та паралізації роботи» організації.

На практиці це означає повний розрив інституційного співробітництва між росією і північноєвропейськими країнами в Арктиці + припинення спільних проєктів у галузі екології, транспорту, економіки та реагування на надзвичайні ситуації + посилення політичної ізоляції росії в арктичному регіоні.

Таким чином, росія остаточно виходить із форматів співробітництва, створених у 1990-х роках для розвитку Арктики і прикордонних регіонів.

Фактично денонсація угод з Норвегією, Фінляндією та Швецією є тривожним сигналом, бо москва перетворює Північ на плацдарм для нового протистояння.

Тепер Кремль не пов'язаний жодними нормами взаємодії - ні в надзвичайних ситуаціях, ні в екологічних питаннях, ні в питаннях попередження конфліктів.

У військовому плані це означає свободу дій для ескалації відносини з НАТО. Зараз поясню чому

Раніше існувала договірна практика попередження про військові навчання, обмеженого розміщення військ поблизу кордонів, спільного моніторингу. Крім того, відмова від угод дає змогу рф переміщувати флотські угруповання приховано, без нотифікацій попередження, імітуючи маневри

Після цього почнеться безперервна карибська криза 2.0 - російські ракети перекидаються максимально близько до кордону з Норвегією і Фінляндією, що в підсумку дає простий та зрозумілий результат - в зону ураження потрапляє будь-який літак НАТО над Баренцевим морем.

Ну або простими словами - рф тупо створить заборонені зони для західної авіації. І все

Далі. Північний морський шлях (ПМШ) - колишній логістичний проєкт, росіяни перетворять на військово-контрольований маршрут. Арктика вже перетворюється на «сакральний» Крим або Донбас в російській пропаганді. Регіон оголошується символом сили, жертви і національного відродження.

Денонсація договору росія буде використовувати в медіа-кампаніях на Півдні та Сході, в контексті "росія виходить з-під західного контролю навіть в Арктиці - так робить сильна цивілізація", "Європа втрачає контроль над північчю, а росія повертає".

Слідкуйте за руками, а точніше за тим, як розрив росіянами договору перетворюється на імперський наратив:

"Ми повертаємо собі контроль над історією і простором. Навіть в Арктиці".

І останнє або для розуміння того, що не можна трактувати дії росіян за загальноприйнятими правилами. В традиційній логіці міжнародних відносин ізоляція - це ознака слабкості.
