"A group inspired by Russia's GRU military intelligence service has been identified, which aims to influence the Polish elections by sowing disinformation," Deputy Prime Minister and head of the International Centre Krzysztof Gawkowski said on Friday. He announced that a plan to protect the elections would be presented in January.

"In recent days, a Russian group, another one inspired and trained by the Russian military intelligence service GRU, has been discovered, whose aim is to influence the elections in Poland. Not only on the Polish political scene, but also in the Polish elections," Gawkowski said on TVN24.

He explained that it is about "sowing disinformation, false information" and "recruiting people who are supposed to be some kind of content installers to destroy the integrity of the political scene in Poland".
When asked who the members of this group were, he replied: "This is a Russian group, but it can recruit different people."

"Russia is waging a cyber war with Poland, not a cold war, but a warm war. We are the country that has been attacked the most in the European Union," said the head of the Ministry of Digitalisation.

Gawkowski also spoke about the protection of elections, in particular, the protection of the National Election Bureau's systems or countering disinformation, which, according to him, is the responsibility of "new units".
"They are responsible for the fact that we can identify groups like the GRU, as I mentioned, in cooperation with the Polish special services," said the head of the IC.
When asked what the government would do if Elon Musk, the owner of X (formerly Twitter), wanted to say who to vote for, Gawkowski replied: "Everyone can express their opinion in the public space."

"But influencing the Polish elections is illegal, meaning you can't change the algorithms to subdue someone," he added.
He also announced the presentation of a plan to protect the elections. "We will present the entire plan in January," Gawkowski said.

In general, Krzysztof is quite an interesting character. In November 2024, Deputy Prime Minister Gawkowski accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of wanting to drag Warsaw into a war with Russia.

He criticised Zelensky for his recent statements, calling them "unworthy of a politician who owes a lot to Poland".

According to the Polish deputy prime minister, the involvement in the war will happen if Warsaw agrees to shoot down Russian missiles and drones.

Following this statement, Ukraine's Foreign Ministry responded that it considers the statements of Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digitalisation Krzysztof Gawkowski about the alleged desire of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to involve Warsaw in a full-scale war with Russia by shooting down Russian missiles and UAVs over the territory of Ukraine to be groundless, adding that the ministry is convinced that shooting down Russian drones and missiles flying towards Poland over the territory of Ukraine, and not over the territory of Poland itself, is in the interests of the security of its citizens. That is why the Ministry of Foreign Affairs considers it unacceptable to talk about Ukraine's alleged desire to draw Poland or other countries into a war. In particular, because there are numerous provocations, cyberattacks and violations of the airspace of Poland and other European countries by missiles and drones of the aggressor country.

Also, when in September 2024, the Polish media reported an attempt by Russian and Belarusian hackers to attack the republic's official information resources in order to further seize confidential data and use it for further blackmail, Gawkowski sharply commented on these reports, saying that the "attack by Russian-Belarusian hackers" could be seen as a "de facto cyberwar" against Poland.
