A new Geoprocessing Tool on GISCARTA: Buffering 🌍

Buffering is a fundamental technique in GIS that allows users to analyze proximity. In this example, we visualized CafΓ©s, Supermarkets and Pharmacies within 250m, 500m, 1000m of metro stations in Vienna, helping businesses make smarter location-based decisions.

πŸ” Why buffering matters:

πŸ“ Retail can identify optimal locations near transit hubs
πŸ₯ Healthcare can assess service accessibility
🏒 Real estate can evaluate property value influences
πŸ›  Urban planning can ensure equitable amenity distribution

If you're optimizing store placement or planning public infrastructure, buffering gives you the spatial context you need to act with confidence

🌐 GIS: The Bridge Between Infrastructure Resilience and Climate Risk Management πŸ› πŸŒͺ

GIS isn't just about maps β€” it's about making critical decisions with spatial awareness. Ands we’ve just launched a new interactive example to show how.

πŸ—Ί What’s inside the map:

🌐 Google Street View iFrame embedded for every event location
πŸ“Š Three interactive dashboards tied to real incident data
πŸ” Dynamic filters and spatial queries for fast monitoring of alarm status
πŸ•° Map history showing where and when accidents happened
πŸ“‹ Detailed attributes for each incident

πŸ‘‰ Explore the full map

This is how companies can use GIS to:

- Prevent future accidents
- Monitor environmental threats
- Enhance safety protocols
- Make data-backed decisions at every level

In today’s world, where infrastructure and climate risks intersect more than ever, GIS empowers companies to act smart, fast, and safely.

😎 New Release on GISCARTA! 🎯

We’re thrilled to share the latest updates on our platform. Here’s what’s new:

1️⃣ Added display of the zoom level in the Zoom widget βž•
2️⃣ Added the ability to export a style from one layer and apply it to another layer! πŸ—ΊοΈ
And this is possible even for layers with different types of geometry! (see video)
3️⃣ For linear objects, added the ability to display a line outline and create a drawing on the line (including the direction of movement!) ➑️
4️⃣ Added a right-click on the map! Now you can conveniently copy the click coordinate, as well as put a mark on the map!
5️⃣ Lots of nice design updates - the platform is getting more and more beautiful)) πŸ–οΈ
6️⃣ An attribute table widget has been added to the mobile layout πŸ“²
7️⃣ Some geoprocessing widgets have been updated

And the next release will be completely new!

🌊 Potential Flood Zones in Rotterdam 🌍

How will coastal cities be affected by rising sea levels?

We created an interactive map that visualizes flood risks in Rotterdam under a scenario of a 2-meter sea level rise.
πŸ—Ί The map is based on a digital elevation model (Mapzen) combined with population density and urban development data.

πŸ“Œ This tool supports:
β€’ Spatial risk analysis
β€’ Impact assessment on population and infrastructure
β€’ Urban planning and emergency response decision-making

πŸ” Fast Food Brands in Manhattan
The project showcases the most popular fast food brands β€” Burger King, KFC, McDonald's, Subway, and Taco Bell β€” all located in the very heart of New York City: Manhattan.

πŸ“Š Dashboards and Insights
Based on this layer, dashboards were created to show:
β€’ The distribution of various brands across districts
β€’ The total number of locations
β€’ Their proximity to subway stations

πŸš‡ Subway Proximity Analysis
To evaluate how close fast food spots are to the subway, buffer zones of 500 meters and 1000 meters were constructed. The project also includes subway lines and station locations throughout New York City.

πŸ”₯ Heatmap and Brand Density
A toggleable heatmap layer displays the density of fast food locations by brand.

🧭 Interactive Map Story
With the help of an interactive map story, users can quickly explore the key spatial patterns of fast food distribution in Manhattan.
