Iran has confirmed that it has stopped carrying out retaliatory attacks on Middle Eastern countries where the United States has stationed troops. The reason is that the U.S. halted its bombing campaign on Iran on Friday after roughly two weeks of strikes.

Retaliatory attacks are no longer necessary, an Iranian military spokesperson said on Sunday. The ceasefire follows nearly two weeks of attacks on Iran. Washington had accused Iran of targeting American troops and regional allies, as well as of blocking the Strait of Hormuz.

According to The New York Times, citing anonymous sources, Trump is for now refraining from further escalation. Concerns about running low on air‑defense missiles reportedly play a role in that decision.

Trump is said to be considering diplomatic options in the conflict, which has lasted nearly five months. On Friday, he told journalists that he was in talks with the Iranians. “I think they are becoming more serious by the day. We are fully prepared, but we are speaking with them first.”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is expected to visit the White House on Tuesday. Netanyahu is a vocal critic of Washington’s negotiations with Iran’s leaders. He played a key role in convincing Trump to carry out joint strikes on Iran in February. Netanyahu wants U.S. negotiators to take a hard line on Iran’s nuclear and ballistic missile programs. But the U.S. appears to be prioritizing reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
