We are changing things!

Hello Getz fam!

It has been a while and we’ve gone MIA. But for good reason! Since (our) year ended, we felt that it was time to shift gears. We see that there’s room to create more focused and original content!

Responding to that need came naturally, so we hibernated for a bit and will be back soon with great new content.

Look for our first quarterly issue in January!

What does it take to update art?

They say when an artform grows, it has successfully preserved an identity, a way of life, a way of thinking, and carried it into the future. Evolution, however, isn't something that happens once. It's constant and always shifting and changing.

In Ethiopia, this type of progress hasn't been witnessed. It is always at a place where only individuals push their art forward, usually without much support. While there is evolution, it isn't at a sustainable scale.

To see how far art has evolved in Ethiopia, we decided to take a look at artists doing their bit to uplift their respective sector and the creative industries in Ethiopia. This issue covers their thoughts and experiences on the matter.

Is the Ethiopian Music backed by formal industry standards?

Music has always been a prominent presence in human life. Through time, it has managed to surface as a powerhouse industry across time. In Ethiopia, we have a rich tradition in music culture and it has been used to advance new ideas, preserve cultures and traditions and more.

However, is there a formal music industry? How did it surface? What are the ups and downs? Is it well supported? These are some of the questions we were hoping to answer in our 13th Issue. Enjoy!

This issue was produced in partnership with the EUNIC cluster under the Tibebe Online program.
