💬 Pezeshkian urges France to play key role in Lebanon ceasefire

📌 Tehran, IRNA – President Masoud Pezeshkian has emphasized the importance of France’s role in establishing a ceasefire in Lebanon, saying that the European country is one of the guarantors of a previous truce that came into force between Lebanon and Israel in November 2024.

During a phone conversation with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron on Wednesday evening, Pezeshkian said that establishing a ceasefire in Lebanon is “one of the central conditions of Iran’s 10-point plan.”

Based on that plan, a ceasefire took effect on Wednesday between Iran, Israel, and the United States to pause tit-for-tat attacks for two weeks and to allow for negotiations between Tehran and Washington to permanently end the war. However, hours into the announcement of the ceasefire, Israel launched violent attacks across Lebanon, leaving hundreds of casualties.

Reaffirming Iran’s commitment to regional peace, stability, and security, President Pezeshkian stated, “Iran’s acceptance of the ceasefire is a clear sign of responsibility and its serious will to resolve disputes through diplomacy.”

He also criticized European countries for failing to adopt a “clear and decisive position” in condemning crimes committed by the US and Israel against Iran, urging Europe to play a “responsible and effective role” in supporting lasting regional stability and pressuring Washington and Tel Aviv to honor their commitments.

Pezeshkian further described insecurity in the Strait of Hormuz as a direct result of US and Israeli military aggression, while reaffirming Iran’s longstanding role in ensuring safe maritime passage.

Macron, for his part, welcomed Iran’s release of two French citizens and described the ceasefire as an important step toward ending the war and achieving lasting peace.

He also stressed the need to halt the war in Lebanon and expressed France’s readiness to cooperate in international efforts to promote peace and security in the Persian Gulf.
