Salam wa alykum
A few points that the Scholars mention about these last ten nights of Ramadan.
*1- when is laylatul Qadr.*
The scholars mention that no one knows which night is laylatul qadr except Allah, and it changes from year to year hence we should try to seek laylatul qadr in every one of these nights. However it is more likely to be in an odd night and also likely to be in the 27th night.
However, it changes from year to year. This is the opinion of Sheikh Uthaymeen and many of the salaf.
*2- the salaf would stand the night prayer during these ten nights*
The prophet said:
“Whoever stands the night prayer in laylatul Qadr with iman and Seeking the reward from Allah, Allah will forgive all of his sins”
Aisha narrated that when the last ten nights of Ramadan would start, the Prophet would stand the night in prayer and wake up his family (for prayer and worship) and tighten his izar (for the night prayer and increase in worship ).
And the prophet would increase in acts of worship during these last ten nights that which he wouldn’t do in other nights of Ramadan. And this is the messenger of Allah, whose acts of worship are already complete, yet he would do even more during these last ten nights.
3- the importance of Dua during these last ten nights.
We should increase in making lots of dua. Aisha asked the Prophet what should I say in supplication during laylatul Qadr, the prophet said. Say:
اللهم إنك عفوٌ تحب العفو فأعف عني
(O Allah you’re the one Who Pardons, and you love to Pardon, so pardon me for my sins)
The scholars mention that seeking عفو (pardoning) is greater than seeking forgiveness, because seeking عفو (pardoning) is asking Allah to forgive and remove your sins from your book of deeds, so it is as if the sin never occurred, whereas seeking forgiveness is asking Allah to forgive the sins however the sin is still recorded in the book of deeds.
*4- Laylatul Qadr is better than 1000 months,* and Allah revealed an entire surah about this one night due to its importance, honor, and significance.
*5- During laylatul Qadr, Allah decrees what will occur for the servant from provision, life, death and other things that’ll occur for the servant for the upcoming year. *
Hence, it is extremely important that we increase in worship and especially the night prayer during **ALL TEN NIGHTS* *to catch laylatul Qadr.
May Allah accept from us our good deeds and pardon us for our shortcomings.
