• Sein - is used in the simple past (Präteritum) as war. The conjugation is: ich war (I was), du warst (you were), er/sie/es war (he/she/it was), wir waren (we were), ihr wart (you all were), sie/Sie waren (they/you formal were).

Example: Imperfekt

1Tom war müde.
(Tom was tired).

2.Du warst eine große Hilfe. (You were a great help).

Or
Perfekt sentences:

1.Wir sind letztes Jahr in Deutschland gewesen."

(We were/have been in Germany last year.)

2."Es ist sehr lustig gewesen."
(It was/has been very funny.)

So
Haben( perfekt) becomes:
Ich habe/du hast/er sie es hat/ wir haben/ ihr habt/ sie Sie haben

Haben (Imperfekt /simple past)
Ich ich hatte/du hattest/er sie es hatte/ wir hatten/ihr hattet/sie Sie hatten

Sein (perfekt)
Ich bin/ du bist/ er sie es ist/ wir sind/ ihr seid/ sei Sie sind
