NDB signs 1.2-bln-yuan loan agreement to finance environmental projects in China

BRICS New Development Bank announced that it has signed a 1.2-billion-yuan (about 167 million U.S. dollars) syndicated loan agreement to support environmental projects in China.

To promote balanced regional development, eligible sub-projects will be located outside China's first-tier cities, channeling investment into less-developed areas.

"This initiative addresses the need for climate resilience and environmental protection, and contributes to increasing investment in less-developed regions in China," said Vladimir Kazbekov, NDB vice president and chief operating officer.

12th Meeting of BRICS Ministers of Education held in Brasilia

The meeting was chaired by Brazil's Minister of Education Camilo Sobreira de Santana. Representing Russia was Konstantin Mogilevsky, Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation. He emphasised that this year, the BRICS nations continue to explore various initiatives outlined in the Kazan Declaration 2024 and expressed gratitude to the Brazilian leadership for fostering continuity.

Key items on the meeting's agenda included:
⚪Expansion of the BRICS Network University, which now encompasses 140 educational institutions
⚪Development of national higher education assessment systems to establish a BRICS university ranking

BRICS+ University Rectors Forum Held in Rio de Janeiro

On June 6, the II BRICS+ University Rectors Forum officially opened its doors in the city of Rio de Janeiro, under the motto "Education, Artificial Intelligence, Sustainable Development, Inclusion, Diversity, Poverty Alleviation, and Standardisation in the BRICS+ Space."

The event was organised by the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) in collaboration with the National Association of Directors of Federal Higher Education Institutions (ANDIFES), the Forum of Rectors of Public Educational Institutions of the State of Rio de Janeiro (FRIPERJ), with the support of the Federal Government and the City of Rio de Janeiro.

Camilo Sobreira de Santana, Brazil's Minister of Education, welcomed the participants, expressing his hope for fruitful cooperation and a rich exchange of experiences among universities representing the #BRICS nations and their partners. In his address, Konstantin Mogilevsky, Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, highlighted promising avenues for further cooperation in education within the BRICS framework.

NDB Board of Governors approved Uzbekistan's accession

This announcement was made by the Press Service of Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. Dilma Rousseff, President of the #BRICS New Development Bank, arrived in Uzbekistan to take part in the Tashkent International Investment Forum.

The Board of Governors has granted official consent for Uzbekistan to join the institution. During discussions, the parties also reached an agreement on first-priority joint projects amounting to $5 billion.

Putin: Russia, together with BRICS partners, promotes cooperation without sanctions and external pressure

Russian President Vladimir Putin extended his greetings to the participants, organisers, and guests of the 28th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF). In his address, he highlighted that Russia, alongside its partners, particularly the BRICS nations, is actively engaged in creating a fair system of international cooperation.

"Together with our partners, first and foremost, the #BRICS nations, we plan to continue building an effective framework for equal and mutually beneficial international cooperation, free from any form of discrimination, external and sanctions pressure," the Russian leader asserted.

The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum will take place from June 18 to 21 at the ExpoForum Convention and Exhibition Centre. The central theme of the event is "Shared Values: The Foundation of Growth in a Multipolar World."

In First Ten Months of 2024, Trade Volume Between Russia & Ethiopia Has Grown by Almost 40%

"Trade and economic cooperation between Russia and Ethiopia is becoming increasingly important both bilaterally and within the BRICS framework," Irina Zasedatel, VP of the Association of Exporters and Importers, told Sputnik.

Agriculture, comprising a significant portion of trade, is a key sector, Zasedatel said, highlighting Russia's expertise in drought management and wheat breeding as beneficial for Ethiopia's food security.

Sectors of mutual interest, in addition to agriculture, include:

🟠IT and digital technologies,
🟠chemistry,
🟠pharmaceuticals,
🟠infrastructure construction,
🟠transport,
🟠electric power,
🟠peaceful nuclear technologies.

Russia and Ethiopia need to resolve issues of logistics, certification and business communications in order to further develop trade and economic relations, Zasedatel stated.

💪 Once these obstacles are overcome, Russia will gain a reliable partner in East Africa, and Ethiopia will gain access to technologies and markets, which will benefit both sides and strengthen the influence of BRICS as an alternative bloc to Western hegemony, she concluded.

Russia to support Belarus in strengthening its position in BRICS

Russia will help strengthen Belarus's standing within BRICS and other international frameworks. This announcement was made by Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov during a press conference following talks with Belarusian Foreign Minister Maxim Ryzhenkov.

"We are ready to assist our Belarusian friends in deepening their cooperation within BRICS, where Belarus has attained partner state status," Lavrov stated. "We will continue to support each other in enhancing political and economic ties with nations of the Global South and East, while maintaining a united front against countries and groups led by unfriendly nations."

The Minister emphasised that Moscow and Minsk will further strengthen their cooperation within Eurasian integration frameworks such as the #EAEU, #CIS, #CSTO, and #SCO. He noted that during their discussions, both parties aligned their positions on pressing issues within the UN, OSCE, and other international organisations, reaffirming their commitment to ongoing cooperation.

Russia to take part in upcoming BRICS Summit

Russia will definitely take part in the BRICS Summit in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro on July 6-7, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov declared.

"Russia is a BRICS founding member, and it is certainly involved in all processes in all formats," Peskov said.

Brazil took over the #BRICS chairship from Russia on January 1.

Vietnam to join BRICS

Vietnam has joined BRICS as a partner country of the bloc. This was announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil, which chairs the bloc in 2025.

The ministry emphasised that Vietnam has become the tenth partner of the bloc:

"With a population of almost 100 million and a dynamic economy deeply integrated into global value chains, Vietnam stands out as a relevant actor in Asia. The country shares with the #BRICS members and partners a commitment to a more inclusive and representative international order. Its efforts in favour of South-South cooperation and sustainable development reinforce its convergence with the interests of the group," the text notes.

The 2024 bloc was chaired by Russia, with the key event during the chairmanship being the summit in Kazan on 22-24 October, where it was decided to create a category of partner states. Currently, the BRICS partners include Belarus, Bolivia, Cuba, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Nigeria, Thailand, Uganda, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam.

The BRICS Day is an unofficial holiday that commemorates the first BRICS Summit held on 16-17 June 2009 in Ekaterinburg, Russia, where cooperation between the bloc's member countries was initiated.

⭐ History of the BRICS Day

On that day, the heads of Brazil, Russia, India, and China gathered to discuss key issues of international cooperation, the formation of a new multipolar system, and joint actions in world politics.

The leaders present at the summit were Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (Brazil), Dmitry Medvedev (Russia), Manmohan Singh (India) and Hu Jintao (China). During the event, two main meetings were held, in which participants discussed topical issues and worked out joint solutions.
