"Kill Yusuf or cast him out to some other land, so that the favor of your father may be given to you alone, and after that you can become a righteous people." [12:9]

In his commentary on this ayah, Imam al-Baghawi wrote:

Muhammad ibn Ishaaq said, “What they did involved many sins including the cutting of blood ties, poor treatment of parents, lack of compassion towards a child who had done nothing wrong, making false promises to achieve their own aims, breaking their promises, and lying to their parents. But Allāh pardoned them for all of that so that no one could lose hope of Allāh’s mercy.”

Displaying your inkpot is from showing-off (riyaa’)

It is upon Allāh to send the revelation, it is upon His Messenger to convey it, and it is upon us to submit!

Do not walk above the ground except with humility

For how many of those under it are higher than you.

Abdullah ibn Amr reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “A man among those before you went out haughtily in his fine garment, so Allah ordered the earth to seize him. He is sinking into it until the Day of Resurrection.”

Qatadah رضي الله عنه said,

"Know that sinning in the sacred months (Dhul Hijjah, Dhul Qaidah, Moharram and Rajab) is worse than sinning in other than them even though sinning in all circumstances is something not to be taken lightly, except Allah magnifies from the affairs that which is pleasing to him."

Umm Kulthum bint Abee Bakr used to say:

I prayed to Allah to bless me with a husband who would pour love on me in abundance and worship Allah a lot, so Allah blessed her with Talha ibn Ubaidullah رضي الله عنه (one of those who was promised Paradise)

The Salaf reported from her that she said:

If he saw me, he would rejoice when he heard my voice he would smile when I smile and if I cried, he would cry.

He would not sleep until he was reassured that I was warm in my bed, and he would not leave a prayer without praying for me in it before himself.

And if I became ill, he would share my pain as though the illness was in his body, and he would not be at ease until he would make me sit next to him, and whenever he ate he would start with the morsel to my mouth and feed me with his hand. I was his pride and honour in secret and in public.

In his collection of narration, Abu al-Qasim al-Baghawi wrote:

[أتى رجل عبدالله بن مسعود رضي الله عنه فقال : يا أبا عبدالرحمن علمني كلمات جوامع نوافع ؟
فقال : اعبد الله ولا تشرك به شيئا ، وزل مع القرآن حيث زال ، ومن جاءك بالحق فاقبل منه وإن كان بعيداً قصياً ، ومن جاءك بالباطل فاردده وإن كان قريبا حبيباً .]

A man came to Abdullah ibn Mas'ood and said, "Abu 'Abd al-Rahman, teach me some comprehensive and beneficial words."

Ibn Mas'ood replied, "Worship Allah without worshiping anything alongside Him. Go wherever the Qur'an takes you. Whoever comes to you with the truth, accept it from him even if he is a rough person whom you have no connection with. Whoever comes to you with falsehood, reject it even if he is a beloved close relative."

Shaykh al-Albānī رحمه الله:

“Know that articulating the intention was not legislated when making Ḥajj or when doing any other form of worship—like praying, fasting, or purifying one’s self—rather, the intention exists in the heart. As for uttering it, then this is an innovation, and every innovation is misguidance, and all misguidance leads to the Fire.”

Maryam bint ‘Abdul Qadir (رحمه الله علها) was a copywriter.

Women would work alongside men to scribe religious books and the Quran. (please take note that this does not mean free mixing, it means doing the same work as men in terms of scribing religious knowledge)

She is said to be one of the women scholars of the 6th Century after Hijri.

She worked on the copywriting of an Arabic dictionary.

“At the end of the work a poignant phrase was written.”

Maryam bint ‘Abdul Qadir (رحمه الله علها) said:

“Please forgive me if you find a mistake in this book, because when I was writing with my right hand I was rocking my son to sleep with my left"

[Reported in 1928 AD by an Iraqi writer and author Abdullatif Chalabi (1945), also Narrated by Abdul Wahid al-Marrakeshi from Andalusia (d. 647 AH)]

A man said: How can a servant be truly pious before Allaah?

Jesus replied: The matter is easy.

You must truly love Allaah in your heart and work in His service, exerting all your effort and strength, and be merciful towards the people of your race as you show mercy to yourself.

He said: Teacher of goodness, who are the people of my race?

Jesus replied: All the children of Adam!

And that which you don’t want to be done to you, don’t do to others. In this way, you’ll be truly pious before Allaah!

Shaykh Ibn 'Uthaymin رحمه الله said

"Losing the scholar does not only [entail] losing his personality. However, it also [entails] losing a portion of the heritage of prophethood.

A great portion, in accordance to what this lost scholar carried out in terms of actualisation (of his knowledge).

By Allah, losing the beneficial scholar cannot be replaced by wealth, nor real estates, nor properties, nor houses.

Infact, losing him is an affliction upon Islam and the Muslims and it (the loss) cannot be replaced except that Allah provides someone that will succeed him among the scholars, so he carries out what he used to carry out of Jihad (striving in the cause of Allah) and aiding the truth."

Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله said:

“When the impediments of the heart are removed, Allāh's Grace and Bounty rushes to man from every side. It is like a great river that irrigates every land through which it passes.

Likewise, one who neglects the heart may be compared to a landowner who complains of drought while the river is near form him.”
