Al-Fuḍayl b. ʿAyyad – Allāh have mercy on him – said:

Do not mix except with those who have good character; for the one who has good character brings nothing but good, whilst the one who has bad character brings nothing but evil.

[Al-Bayhaqī, Shuʿab Al-Īmān, 87044]
Muhammad ibn ‘Alā wrote to Muhammad ibn Yūsuf:

"يَا أَخِي مَنْ أَحَبَّ اللهَ أَحَبَّ أَنْ لا يَعْرِفَهُ النَّاسُ"

O my brother! Whomsoever loves Allāh, then he loves for the people not to know him!

[At-Tawāḍu’ Wal Khumūl: 36]
Ibn Qudamah رحمه الله said:

“Whoever realizes that the Dunya is like ice that melts away, and that the Akhirah is like a pearl that lasts on, his interest in selling the former for the latter will become stronger.”

‎Abu Na'im Ahmad ibn Abdallah al Asbahani رحمه الله stated:

‎“A man came to Imam Ahmad and praised him so he replied:

‎‘I make Allah my witness that I detest you in this speech and if you had known my sins you would have thrown sand over my head’.”

"من أراد أن يبكي على حال الأمة الإسلامية،
"Whoever wants to cry over the state of the Islamic Ummah,

فليجلس في بيته،
can sit in his house,

وليبكي إلى أن تبتلّ فُرشه،
and cry till his bedsheets are soaked..

لكن هذا العالم لا يرحم الضعفاء،
but this world doesn't have mercy on the weak,

ولا يحزن على الباكين،
nor does it have compassion for those who cry.

ليس إلّا أن تنهض،
There's no choice but that you get up,

ويكون لك مشروع، ويكون لك دور،
have a project and role.

ولا تضيّع وقتك،
Don’t waste your time

واجعل لنفسك قيمة حقيقيّة."
and make a true value out of yourself."

Instead, they would refer to them using general terms like spouse, wife, family, dependent, etc.”

Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه said:

“Whoever pays no attention to teaching his child that which will benefit him and he leaves him to waste away without care then he is extremely sinful.”

How to overcome OCD - waswasah

Ibn Kathir (may Allah have mercy on him) said:

The phrase: Whether you show what is within yourselves or conceal it, Allah will bring you to account for it. (al-Baqarah 2:284 – interpretation of the meaning) means that even if He brings you to account and questions you, He will not punish you except for that which a person is able to ward off. As for that which he cannot ward off, such as the waswas of the nafs, no one is accountable for that, and hating evil waswasah is part of faith. (Tafsir Ibn Kathir, 1/343) 📚

Al-Shaykh ‘Abd al-‘Aziz ibn Baz (may Allah have mercy on him) was asked:
Waswas and ideas may cross a person’s mind, especially to do with tawhid the oneness of Allah and faith will the Muslim be held accountable for that?

He replied:

“It is narrated in al-Sahihayn and elsewhere that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Allah will forgive my ummah (followers) for whatever crosses their minds so long as they do not speak of it or act upon it.” (Agreed upon) And it is narrated that the Sahabah (may Allah be pleased with them) asked the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) about the kinds of waswas and thoughts referred to in the question crossing their minds. He (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) replied: “That is a clear sign of faith.” (Narrated by Muslim) And he (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “The people will keep on wondering until it is said, ‘This was created by Allah, but who created Allah?’ Whoever experiences any of that, let him say, Amantu Billahi wa rusulihi (I believe in Allah and His messengers).’” (Agreed upon)  According to another report: “Let him seek refuge with Allah and stop it.” (Narrated by Muslim in his Sahih) (Tuhfatal-Ikhwan bi Ajwibah Muhimmah tata’allaq bi Arkan al-Islam (question no. 10)
Ibn Al-Jawzī observed that his son was deviating, so he advised him with beautiful lines of poetry wherein he said:

"Where is the pleasure of yesterday [that you experienced from sinning]? It has gone.. And nothing remains therefrom except regret.."

Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله said:

“If success is preordained to anyone, the seeds of good fortune would be implanted in his heart, and then they would be watered with hope and fear of Allāh, then self-control will be granted, and knowledge will be the guardian that will protect him, and as a result, the plant will stand straight on its stem.”

[al-Fawā’id | Pg. 78]
Anas Ibn Malik رضي الله عنه used to tell his son:

"O my son! Secure knowledge by writing".

Sheikh Ibn Uthyameen رحمه الله said,

It is not permissible to envy even the disbeliever; because envy is a kind of objection to Allah’s Divine Will and Decree (qadaa’ wal-qadr).

Ibn Sireen رحمه الله said,

If Allah wants good for a servant, he makes in his heart a preacher (a warner); commanding him to do the right and forbidding him from the wrong.“

[Kitab az Zuhd of Imam Ahmad رحمه الله , pg. 247, no. 1768]
Moving from sin to sin and still you hope for a rank in Paradise and the success like that of a devoted worshiper.

But you forgot that Allah expelled Adam from there to the dunya for a single sin.

So the remembrance of Allah is relief after hardship and ease after difficulty and comfort after sorrow, grief and worry.

And it is the joy of the people of Iman, the comfort of their souls and the tranquility of their hearts.

It is their refuge from every distress and hardship and from every sorrow and concern.

If the heart of the believer is afflicted with a type of distress, worry or sadness, he resorts to the remembrance of Allah.

So the worries of his heart will be lifted. And the clouds of sorrow, pain and grief will disperse.

And Allah will replace it with happiness, relief, comfort and tranquility.

So if it becomes heedless of the remembrance of Allah, worries will continually come to him.

And it will not be removed from his heart until he returns his heart to the remembrance of Allah.
