Ibn al-Qayyim

I once attended fajr prayer with Ibn Taymiyyah he then sat and remembered Allāh until it was nearly midday. He then turned around and said to me:

“This is my early morning meal, if I do not take this breakfast, my strength will drop."

[Al-Wābil as-Sayyib | Pg. 60]
Ibn al-Qayyim

“Allāh disciplines His believing servant whom He loves and values with the smallest of sins and mistakes, such that he is always alert and cautious.

As for the one who has fallen from His sight and has become insignificant to Him, He leaves him to his sins, and with each sin, He gives him a worldly blessing. The deceived one thinks that this is a favour upon him, he doesn't realise that this is the essence of humiliation by which Allāh intends a severe punishment, one without an end."

Virtue of Being Patient Upon Calamities - Sheikh Ibn Baz

A woman says in this question: Esteemed Sheikh, is a person rewarded and elevated in ranks for being patient upon what saddens him and causes distress in his life?

Yes, being patient upon calamities gets one closer to Allah ﷻ.

Allah says(the meaning of which):
"But give glad tidings to those who are patient. Who, when afflicted with calamity, say: "Truly! To Allah we belong and truly, to Him we shall return.
They are those on whom are the Salawat from their Rabb, and (they are those who) receive His Mercy, and it is they who are the guided-ones.

Allāh ﷻ says (it's meaning): And be patient. Surely, Allah is with those who are patient.[Al-Anfaal:46]
And Allah ﷻ says: "Only those who are patient shall receive their rewards in full, without reckoning."[Az-Zumar:10]

And the Prophet ﷺ said "How astonishing is the case of a believer; there is goodness for him in everything. If a calamity strikes him, he endures it patiently and that is good for him; and If prosperity attends him, he expresses gratitude to Allah and that is good for him".

If a woman or man is afflicted with sadness or distress due to debt or enmity of someone,

enmity of his parents, or his neighbours, and he endures it patiently and doesn't do anything but goodness, for him is a great reward.

And likewise if he is patient upon illnesses and grief like the death of a relative.

There is great goodness and virtue in all of that. Yes.
What is the Cause of Humiliation of Muslims and Division Amongst Them - Sheikh Ibn Baz

Question: He is asking regarding that which has afflicted the Muslims today from humiliation, division, differing, and their enemies seeking to gain control over them.

Answer: I do not know of any reason for this humiliation and division other than not being upright upon the religion of Allah, not establishing the shari'ah of Allah, and not holding fast to the rope of Allah together.

Indeed Allah ﷻ has promised his 'ibaad, who are believers, victory and aid.

Allah ﷻ says (the meaning of which): "Verily, Allah will help those who help His (Cause). Truly, Allah is All-Strong, All-Mighty.
Those (Muslim rulers) who, if We give them power in the land, (they) order for establishing of Salah, to pay the Zakah and they enjoin Al-Ma'ruf (i.e. Tawheed and all that Islam orders one to do), and forbid Al-Munkar (i.e. disbelief, polytheism and all that Islam has forbidden)" [Al-Hajj:40-41]

And Allah the Exalted says(the meaning of which): "If you help in the cause of Allāh, He will help you and make your foothold firm."[Muhammad:7]

And Allah says: "Allah has promised those among you who believe, and do righteous good deeds, that He will certainly grant them succession to (the present rulers) in the earth."[An-Nur:55]

And Allah has promised them with victory and succession if they believe and do good deeds

(and) if they aid the religion of Allah and enjoin the good and forbid the evil.
Shaykh al-Islam [Ibn Taymiyah] said in Majmoo’ al-Fataawa, 32/194:

Whoever thinks of increasing his daughter’s mahr and asking for more than the daughters of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) were given – when they were the best women in this world in all aspects – is an ignorant fool. The same applies to asking for more than the Mothers of the Believers were given. This applies even if one is well off and can afford it. With regard to one who is poor, he should not give a mahr greater than he can afford to pay without any hardship.
He also said in al-Fataawa al-Kubra:

The words of Imam Ahmad according to the report of Hanbal imply that it is mustahabb for the dowry to be four hundred dirhams. This is the correct view in cases where the man can afford it. It is mustahabb to pay this amount and no more.

In Zaad al-Ma’aad (5/178), Ibn al-Qayyim quoted some of the ahaadeeth that indicate that the mahr should be reduced and that there is no minimum amount. Then he said:

These ahaadeeth indicate that there is no minimum amount for the mahr… and that exaggerating concerning the mahr is makrooh, and that it reduces its barakah (blessing). End quote.
Imam Ibn al-Qayyim (rahimahullah) said:

“The Masaakeen from the people of this World left without tasting the most beautiful affair within it”.

It was said, "What is the most beautiful affair within it?".

He said, "Knowing Allah, loving Him, having the comfort/delight in knowing Allah's closeness, and having the yearning to meet
Him”.

[ad-Daa wad-Dawaae (also known as al-Jawab al-Kaafi) | Pg. 221]
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:

“Whoever among you wakes up in the morning safe in his home, feeling well in his body, with enough provision for that day—it is as if the world’s treasure has been gathered for him.”

[Jami At-Tirmidhi No.2346 | Hasan]
Shaykhul-Islām Ibn Taymiyyah, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

“I haven’t seen anything nourishing the mind and soul, preserving the body and guaranteeing happiness more, than constantly looking into the Book of Allah, Exalted is He.”

A man asked one of the Salaf:
"How much Qur'an should we read?"

He replied:
"Equivalent to the amount of happiness you are looking for."

[Majmou’-ul-Fataawa 7/493]
Sufyān ath-Thawrī said: “The believer is in need of patience as he is in need of food and drink.”

● {Ibn Abī ad-Dunyā in aṣ-Ṣabr (no. 81)}
We laugh, and who knows?

Yunus bin ‘Ubayd: I have not seen anyone being sad for so long as al-Hasan.

He used to say: We laugh, and maybe Allah sees our deeds and says: I will not accept anything from you!

{az-Zuhd (p. 216)}
Ibn Hazm said: “What indicates a person’s weak religion and fear of God, is that he seaks for an opinion that suits his desire.”

{al-Ikham v. 5, p. 64}
Ibn al-Qayyim

“The heart is opened by avoiding excessive looking, talking, listening, mixing with the people, eating, and sleeping.

These excesses cloud and restrict the heart; rather, most of the punishments in this life and the next come from them. How constricted are the hearts of the people who indulge in all of them!?.”

[One Hundred Pieces of Advice | Pg. 47]
‘Utbah ibn Ghazawān رحمه الله said:

I seek refuge in Allāh from deeming myself to be great whilst I am insignificant with Allāh!

[Sahīh Muslim: 2967]
Shaykh al-Fawzān

“Our religion is not a religion of chaos, our religion is a religion of discipline, a religion of organization and a religion of tranquility.

Public protests and demonstrations are not from the practices of the Muslims and the Muslims did not used to be familiar with such activities.”

Ibn al-Qayyim

“Sins expose blessings to eradication. Obedience to Allāh brings about blessings in all the person's affairs — the worldly affairs and the affairs of the next life — while sins destroy all blessings.”
