How many of us sit like this - especially during Jumu’ah?!

رواه أبو داود وابن حبان في صحيحه وزاد قال ابن جريج وضع راحتيك على الأرض {وراء ظهره}

ash-Sharīd b. Suwaid رضي الله عنه reported: The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ passed by me when I was sitting with my left hand behind my back and leaning on my palm.

On seeing me in this posture he said, “Do you sit like those upon whom the Wrath of Allāh has descended?”

● [صحيح الترغيب والترهيب ٣٠٦٦]

• Wasting of time

• Separation between the servant and his Lord
• Supplication not being answered
• Hardness of the heart
• Decaying of blessing in provision and age
• Prevention from attaining knowledge
• Humiliation
• Insults from the enemies
• Constriction of the chest
• Affliction with evil friendship, those who corrupt the heart and make one waste the time
• Prolonging of sadness and grief
• Miserable life
• and Disappointment

All this results from sinning and and neglecting to remember Allāh, just as crops are grown by being watered and are consumed by fire.

Ibn al-Qayyim ‏رحمه الله:

“The example of obedience that grows and increases, is like a seed that you plant, which becomes a tree, then bears fruit, and you ate this fruit and planted their seeds again and whenever the tree bears fruit you eat it and plant its seeds. The exact example can be applied to sins and the way they increase.

There is an old proverb and the wise will understand it:

‘The reward for good deeds is that they are followed by other good deeds, and the punishment for bad deeds is that they are followed by other bad deeds.
