*Praying Two Rak’āt (units) After Returning Home From 'Eīd Prayer:*

Abū Sa'eed al-Khudree said:

_*“The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ would NOT PRAY ANYTHING BEFORE the 'Eīd prayer; then, when he returned to his house,* (after prayer), *he would pray 2 units *(Rak’āt)*.”*_

The Prophet ﷺ said:

_“Whoever revives a Sunnah of mine that has been forgotten after me, then he will have the reward of it and the reward of those who act upon it without their reward being diminished.”_

Sheikh Saleh al-Usaymi shared a benefit in regards to should one initiate fasting the six days of Shawwal immediately after Eid or delay until the middle of the month?

_“Abdul Razzaq reported: I asked Ma'mar about fasting the six days after Eid al-Fitr, and they asked him: Do you fast after Eid by a day?_

*_He said: “Allah’s refuge is sought! Those are the days of celebration, for eating and drinking. Rather fast three days before the white days or the white days or three days after them. The white days are the 13th, 14th and 15th of the lunar month.”_*

_We asked Abdul Razzaq about fasting on the second day of Eid, and he strongly disliked it and vehemently refused."_

*THE 6 SHAWWAAL FASTS*

Fasting for six days during Shawwaal after the Fardh Fasts of Ramadhaan, is a Sunnah of Rasoolullaah (ﷺ).

The virtues of the 6 Shawwaal Fasts are as follows:-

- Hadhrat Aboo Ayyoob (رضي الله عنه) reported that Rasoolullaah (ﷺ) said: “Whoever Fasts Ramadhaan and follows it with 6 Fasts of Shawwaal, it will be as if he fasted for a lifetime.” (Narrated by Muslim, Aboo Dawood, Tirmizi, Nisaa’i & Ibn Maajah).

- Rasoolullaah (ﷺ) explained this when He (ﷺ) said: “Whoever Fasts for six 6 after `Eeidul-Fitr has completed the year: (whoever does a good deed (Hasanaah) will have ten Hasanaah like it).”

- According to another report: “Allaah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) has made for each Hasanaah ten like it, so a month is like fasting ten months, and fasting 6 days completes the year.” (Nisaa’i, Ibn Maajah & Targheeb).

- Another narration had the following wording: “Fasting for the month of Ramadhaan brings the reward of ten like it, and fasting for 6 days brings the reward of two months, and that is the fasting of the whole year.” (Ibn Khuzaymaah)

These 6 Fasts can start from the day after `Eeid and they do not have to be kept continuously….but the sooner one Inshaa’Allaah keeps them, the better it is.

If one does want to spread them out, one can Inshaa'Allaah keep them on Mondays & Thursdays and one can also keep them on Ayyaamul Beedh (middle 3 days of the Islaamic month which will be the 13th, 14th & 15th of Shawwaal).

One will then Inshaa'Allaah be rewarded for multiple Sunan for the above combinations, because it is also Sunnah to fast on:-

- Mondays (Muslim, Tirmizi, Ibn Maajah & Nasaa'i),
- Thursdays (Tirmizi, Ibn Maajah & Nasaa'i),
- Ayyaamul Beed (Bukhaaree, Muslim, Tirmizi & Nasaa'i)

*[NOTE: One cannot keep/combine the 6 Shawwaal Fasts with the Niyyah of any Qadhaa Fasts one may have. The Qadhaa Fasts have to be kept seperately]*

Please try to Inshaa'Allaah keep these 6 Shawwaal Fasts yourselves and also tell/foreward to others. If they fast due to your reminder, then Inshaa'Allaah you will also be rewarded for their fasting, because Rasoolullaah (ﷺ) said:

- "Whoever intiates a noble practice which is acted upon (by people), he will earn the same reward of those who practice it without their reward diminishing." [Muslim & Ibn Maajah]

Jazaakumullaahu khyran.

And Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) knows best.
