The Day of ‘Arafah

A Day in Which the Servants Are Freed From the Fire in Abundance

On the authority of ‘Aisha رضي الله عنها who said that the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: "There is no day in which Allāh sets free more slaves from the Hell-Fire than [He does] on the Day of ‘Arafah."

Ibn Rajab al-Ḥanbalī Raḥimahullāh said: “…And the day of ‘Arafah is a day of being freed from the Fire, and so within it Allaah frees from the Fire the one who stands at ‘Arafah, as well as he who did not stand therein from the Muslims, from the people of the varying lands.

So due to that, the day which follows it became a day of ‘Eid for all of the Muslims in all of their regions – those who witnessed the season (of Ḥajj) from amongst them as well as those that did not witness it, due to their partaking in being freed and attaining forgiveness on the day of ‘Arafah.”

Fasting on This Day Expiates the Sins of Two Years

On the authority of Abee Qataadah رضي الله عنه who said that the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ was asked concerning fasting on the day of ‘Arafah so he said: "It expiates sins of the previous year as well as the following year."

Imam An-Nawawee رحمه الله said: “Its meaning is that it expiates the sins of the one who fasts it for that of two years, and the intent by that is of the minor sins, and this is similar to the expiation of the errors through performance of wudhu. Thus, if there are no more minor sins, then it is hoped for a lessening from the major sins, and if there are not to be; then through the raising of the ranks.”

Imaam An-Nawawee [رحمه الله] said:

❝Know that it is recommended to be plentiful in making Adhkaar [remembrance of Allaah] during these ten [days] – in excess of other than them. It is likewise recommended to do that on the day of ‘Arafah more-so than the rest of the ten [days].❞

● [Al-Adhkaar, (Page: 209)]

There Is Not A Day In The World Where Allāh Emancipates From The Fire Like The Day Of 'Arafah

Shaykh Ibn Bāz رحمه الله said: "So the day of 'Arafah is a great day. There is not a day in this world where Allāh Emancipates (persons) from the fire like the day of 'Arafah. So it is necessary to make a lot du'ā and exert one's self in making du'ā and frequently (saying) 'Lā Ilāha ill-Allāh since it is a du'ā."

Fasting The Day of 'Arafah is Disliked For The Pilgrims But Is Highly Recommended For Other Than Him

Shaykh Muḥammad Ibn Ṣāliḥ al-‘Uthaymīn رحمه الله said: "So what is correct is that fasting on the day of 'Arafah for the pilgrim is disliked. As for the one who is not performing Ḥajj then it (i.e. Fasting) is highly recommended.

The wisdom behind why it is disliked for the pilgrim to fast on this day is as the shaykh said: "This day is the day of du'ā and actions, and the best time to make du'ā is the latter part of the day. So if an individual were to fast, the end of the day would approach and he will be lazy and tired."

Narrated from Abū Qatādah al-Anṣārī Raḍi-Allāhu ‘Anhu that the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ was asked about fasting of the day of 'Arafah so he said: “It is an expiation for TWO YEARS (of minor sins).”

In another narration; The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ was asked regarding fasting of the day of 'Arafah so he said: “Through it Allāh expiates (sins) of the year which was before it and the year which is after it.”

IMPORTANT NOTE
Imām an-Nawawī Raḥimahullāh mentioned in the Sharḥ of Ḥadeeth regarding fasting of the 'Arafah: “And what is meant by sins in here are the MINOR SINS.”

As for the major sins, they require sincere Tawbah,

Fast Of 'Arafah

2
‘Ā`ishah رضي الله عنها: “There is no day of the year that I love to fast MORE than the day of ‘Arafah.”

The Prophet [ﷺ] said about fasting on the day of ’Arafah for those not performing the Haj:

❝It expiates sins of the previous year as well as the following year.❞

● [Reported By Muslim, (No. 1250)]

Du’a by ‘Ali on the day of ‘Arafah:

“Oh Allaah! Free me from the fire, increase my halal sustenance, and keep the transgressive jinns and humans away from me.”

What Du'ā To Recite On The Day Of 'Arafah | Repeat This A Lot

The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: “The best of supplication is supplication on the day of ‘Arafah and best is what I say and the Prophets before me said;

'Laa Ilaaha Illallaahu Waḥdahoo Laa Shareeka Lahoo, Lahul Mulku Walahul Ḥamdu Wahuwa 'Alaa Kulli Shay`in Qadeer’

(There is none worthy of worship except Allāh, and He is alone, He has no partner, to Him belongs the supreme authority and praise and He is able to do all things).”

Imaam An-Nawawee [رحمه الله] stated:

❝It has reached us from Saalim bin ‘Abdillaah bin ‘Umar [رضي الله عنه], that he saw a petitioner asking from the people on the day of ‘Arafah, so he said: ‘O feeble one! On this day is other than Allaah, The Mighty and Majestic to be asked from?’❞

Very beneficial book by Sheikh AbdulMuhsin Al-Abbad

Use this book to help prepare you for tomorrow the day of Arafah.

Where The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “The best supplication is that which is made on the day of Arafat. The best of it is what was said by myself and the Prophets before me, ‘There is no God but Allah alone, without any partners, unto Him belongs the dominion and all praise, and He has power over all things.’

"So what does a woman desire, whether it is her worldly affairs or her Hereafter, when she displays herself, when she reveals her beauty, when she intermingles with men, and when she purposely tries to put them to trial and get their attention.

What good does she desire with these types of actions, and what type of virtue does she hope for?! Certainly, it is, by Allāh a tremendous loss, major evil, and widespread trial. [...]"

Prophet Muḥammad Ṣallallāhu-'Alaihi Wa Sallam said:

“And if a person reviles you and dishonors you with what he knows of you then DO NOT degrade him (back) with what you know of him for the curse (of abuse) will ONLY BE UPON HIM.
