Sheikh Saleh al-Usaymi shared a benefit in regards to should one initiate fasting the six days of Shawwal immediately after Eid or delay until the middle of the month?

_“Abdul Razzaq reported: I asked Ma'mar about fasting the six days after Eid al-Fitr, and they asked him: Do you fast after Eid by a day?_

*_He said: “Allah’s refuge is sought! Those are the days of celebration, for eating and drinking. Rather fast three days before the white days or the white days or three days after them. The white days are the 13th, 14th and 15th of the lunar month.”_*

_We asked Abdul Razzaq about fasting on the second day of Eid, and he strongly disliked it and vehemently refused."_

*THE 6 SHAWWAAL FASTS*

Fasting for six days during Shawwaal after the Fardh Fasts of Ramadhaan, is a Sunnah of Rasoolullaah (ﷺ).

The virtues of the 6 Shawwaal Fasts are as follows:-

- Hadhrat Aboo Ayyoob (رضي الله عنه) reported that Rasoolullaah (ﷺ) said: “Whoever Fasts Ramadhaan and follows it with 6 Fasts of Shawwaal, it will be as if he fasted for a lifetime.” (Narrated by Muslim, Aboo Dawood, Tirmizi, Nisaa’i & Ibn Maajah).

- Rasoolullaah (ﷺ) explained this when He (ﷺ) said: “Whoever Fasts for six 6 after `Eeidul-Fitr has completed the year: (whoever does a good deed (Hasanaah) will have ten Hasanaah like it).”

- According to another report: “Allaah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) has made for each Hasanaah ten like it, so a month is like fasting ten months, and fasting 6 days completes the year.” (Nisaa’i, Ibn Maajah & Targheeb).

- Another narration had the following wording: “Fasting for the month of Ramadhaan brings the reward of ten like it, and fasting for 6 days brings the reward of two months, and that is the fasting of the whole year.” (Ibn Khuzaymaah)

These 6 Fasts can start from the day after `Eeid and they do not have to be kept continuously….but the sooner one Inshaa’Allaah keeps them, the better it is.

If one does want to spread them out, one can Inshaa'Allaah keep them on Mondays & Thursdays and one can also keep them on Ayyaamul Beedh (middle 3 days of the Islaamic month which will be the 13th, 14th & 15th of Shawwaal).

One will then Inshaa'Allaah be rewarded for multiple Sunan for the above combinations, because it is also Sunnah to fast on:-

- Mondays (Muslim, Tirmizi, Ibn Maajah & Nasaa'i),
- Thursdays (Tirmizi, Ibn Maajah & Nasaa'i),
- Ayyaamul Beed (Bukhaaree, Muslim, Tirmizi & Nasaa'i)

*[NOTE: One cannot keep/combine the 6 Shawwaal Fasts with the Niyyah of any Qadhaa Fasts one may have. The Qadhaa Fasts have to be kept seperately]*

Please try to Inshaa'Allaah keep these 6 Shawwaal Fasts yourselves and also tell/foreward to others. If they fast due to your reminder, then Inshaa'Allaah you will also be rewarded for their fasting, because Rasoolullaah (ﷺ) said:

- "Whoever intiates a noble practice which is acted upon (by people), he will earn the same reward of those who practice it without their reward diminishing." [Muslim & Ibn Maajah]

Jazaakumullaahu khyran.

And Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) knows best.

O you who knew in Ramadan that you had a Lord, whom you worshipped, obeyed, feared and placed your hope, how could you forget Him after Ramadan?

O you who knew that Allah made it obligatory upon you to pray five prayers in the Masjid, how can you be ignorant of this or feign ignorance after Ramadan?

O you who knew in Ramadan that Allah forbade you from all acts of disobedience, how can you forget this after Ramadan?

O you who knew in Ramadan that in front of you there is Paradise, the Hellfire, a reward and a punishment, how can you be heedless of this after Ramadan?

O you who used to fill the Masjid in Ramadan and recite the Quran, how have you forsaken the Masjid and abandoned the Quran after Ramadan?

How strange is it that a people do not know Allah except in Ramadan, and do not fear Allah except in Ramadan.

Some of the Salaf were asked about the condition of a people who were like this, and they responded:

"How evil is a people who do not know Allah except in Ramadan."

Verily, the Lord of the months is One; the Lord of Ramadan is the Lord of Shawwal, Shaban and the rest of the months. It is obligatory upon the Muslim to worship Allah and desist from disobeying Him at all times and moments.

Ibn Al Jawzi رحمه الله said,

"O you who have accomplished Ramadan in the best condition!
Do not change after it in Shawwal."

*April Fools is Not Permissible!*

Shaykh Ibn ʿUthaymīn رحمه الله said:

I warn my Muslim brothers against what some foolish people do with regards to April Fools' Day – and I believe it is close – this lie, which they have taken from the Jews, the Christians, the Majūs, and the people of kufr. Furthermore, it is – along with the fact that it is a lie, and lying is impermissible in Islām – also imitation of the non-Muslims and imitating the non-Muslims is prohibited: the Nabī ﷺ said:

مَنْ تَشَبَّهَ بِقَوْمٍ فَهُوَ مِنْهُمْ
*“Whoever imitates a people is from them.”*

Shaykh al-Islām Ibn Taymīyyah رحمه الله said: “[This ḥadīth’s] isnād (chain of narration) is good, and the least [that imitating the kuffār] can be is impermissible, even though its apparent wording necessitates the kufr of the one who imitates them.”

“Arafa tomorrow? I don’t think I’m that guy”

For anyone who feels they wasted the past few days, read carefully:

You have not missed the train. In fact, not only is the door still wide open, but the most precious day is still ahead of you. Tomorrow is the Day of ʿArafah.

This is the day about which the Prophet ﷺ said:

صِيَامُ يَوْمِ عَرَفَةَ، إِنِّي أَحْتَسِبُ عَلَى اللَّهِ أَنْ يُكَفِّرَ السَّنَةَ الَّتِي قَبْلَهُ وَالسَّنَةَ الَّتِي بَعْدَهُ

“Fasting the Day of ʿArafah: I hope from Allah that it will erase the sins of the year before it and the year after it.”

One day = Two years of sins vanish, by His mercy.

And the Prophet ﷺ said:

خَيْرُ الدُّعَاءِ دُعَاءُ يَوْمِ عَرَفَةَ

“The best Du’a is the Du’a of the Day of ʿArafah.”

So bring your entire life to Allah tomorrow.

The worries you keep replaying in your head, bring them. The duʿāʾ you have almost given up on, the marriage issue, the family tension, the child you are worried about, the debt, the scandal, the illness, the fear of the future, the guilt of the past, the private sin, the hard heart, the dreams that feel too far away, your pain that no one knows of, bring them all.

Tomorrow is ʿArafah: a day on which, quite literally, a new beginning may be written for you, provided you do not treat it like an ordinary day.

The Prophet ﷺ said:

مَا مِنْ يَوْمٍ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ أَنْ يُعْتِقَ اللَّهُ فِيهِ عَبْدًا مِنَ النَّارِ مِنْ يَوْمِ عَرَفَةَ

“There is no day on which Allah frees more servants from the Fire than the Day of ʿArafah.”

Therefore, it makes perfect sense that the day after ʿArafah is ʿEid, a day of celebration after a day of forgiveness, a day of joy after a day of pleading and healing.

Lastly, in Ramaḍān, Laylat al-Qadr — the greatest night of the year — is hidden from us, so we search for it across the last ten nights. But ʿArafah — the greatest day of the year — has been named for you, dated for you, and placed clearly before you.

So do not let Shayṭān tell you, “Ah, you’ve been lazy. You’ve wasted the first days. You’re not spiritual enough. People like you don’t suddenly become close to Allah.”

That’s one of his oldest doors, weaponizing your guilt to keep you away from the One who forgives guilt.

So fast if you are able to, and make the intention if you can’t. Guard your tongue. Give something in charity. Make a list of your duʿāʾs. Sit alone for a while. Raise your hands before Maghrib. Beg Allah like someone who is drowning, who knows that the King is generous and the door is open.

As you do so, do not forget your siblings in Islam in Gaza, Palestine, Sudan, and everywhere the Ummah is bleeding. Ask Allah to relieve them, strengthen them, protect them, honour them, and use you in their support in a way that removes from you the shame of abandonment.

O Allah, grant me and my global Muslim family the ability to do good tomorrow.
