‘Umar ibn Al-Khattāb رضي الله عنه said:

Indeed, you were the most lowly of people, the least of people and the most despised of people, then Allāh honored you with Islām. So whenever we seek to be honoured through other than it, Allāh will bring us humiliation!

[Az-Zuhd Li Ibn Al-Mubārak: 584]

*Expressing love does not diminish a man's masculinity*

Ibn Ḥajar raḥimahullāh said:

«لا عار على الرجل في إظهار حُبّه لزوجته»

"There is no shame for a man in expressing his love for his wife."

[فتح الباري (415/9)]

Umar ibn al-Khattab reported: I entered the room of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, while he was lying on his side over a mat. I sat down as he drew up his lower garment and he was not wearing anything else. The mat had left marks on his side. I looked at the Prophet’s cupboard and I saw a handful of barely in a small amount, the same of mimosa leaves in the corner, and a leather bag hanging to the side. My eyes started to tear up, and the Prophet said, “What makes you weep, son of Khattab?” I said, “O Prophet of Allah, why should I not cry that this mat has left marks on your side and I see little in this cupboard? Caesar and Khosrau live among fruits and springs, while you are the Messenger of Allah and His chosen, yet this is your cupboard.” The Prophet said, “O son of Khattab, are you not pleased that they are for us in the Hereafter and for them in the world?” I said, “Of course.”

‎Ahmad ibn Hanbal رحمه الله said:

Shaykh Rabee said: “The point is that when you read the books of the Salaf, you will find that they do not equate these matters. If we hate the people of innovation, such as the Sufis and others—who are many groups—and the Ash’aris and others, we do not hate them like we hate the Jews and Christians. Love, like faith, increases and decreases, and it varies in the people. Likewise, hatred varies: there is a level of hatred for the Jews, a different level for the Christians, and another level for the people of innovation.

If the disbelievers among the Jews and Christians transgress against groups such as the Ash’aris and Sufis, we defend them and assist them in confronting these enemies, despite our dislike for them, and though they dislike us even more intensely.
They lack this kind of fairness; it is obligatory upon them to love us and return to the truth we possess. However, there is neither love nor justice from them. In fact, some of their extremists go so far as to declare us disbelievers unjustly and out of enmity. As for us, we do not declare them disbelievers, nor do we treat them with the same hostility as we do the disbelievers.”

Umm ʿAbd Allāh al-Wādiʿīyah said:

“Lying to a child opens the door to widespread evil, as the child will learn this trait; leading them to lie in their speech and break their promises.”

Someone said:
I went to a function where I saw one of the attendees persistently eating dates and drinking coffee, so I asked him: (why is it) I see you constantly eating dates and drinking coffee? He replied: are you aware that my father lived until he was 105 years old? So I enquired: was your father addicted to drinking coffee and eating dates? He replied: No, he -may Allāh have mercy on him- never used to get involved in other people's business.
