🇮🇳 Membrane canopy collapse at Delhi airport after heavy rain (May 25, 2025)

🌧 On the night of May 24-25, 2025, due to heavy rain and gusty winds, a membrane canopy collapsed on the outside of Terminal 1 at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) in Delhi.

✈️ The weather disrupted airport operations: between 23:30 and 04:00, 49 flights (including 17 international) were diverted, and over 400 flights were delayed by an average of 27 minutes. Access to the airport was difficult due to flooding.

🛠 This is a new structure built after the previous membrane canopy collapsed under similar weather conditions a year earlier, resulting in one fatality. Representatives of Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) stated that the fabric canopy tearing was a designed response of the structure to extreme weather, and no serious damage was reported.

🧊🇨🇭 Switzerland: Massive Glacier Collapse Threatens Village of Blatten in Valais 🏔️

On May 28, 2025, a massive collapse of the Birch Glacier occurred near the village of Blatten, in the canton of Valais, Switzerland. Over 3.5 million cubic meters of ice, rock, and snow broke off, putting an estimated 9 million tons of pressure on the remaining glacier mass. This marks one of the most significant glacial collapses in recent times.

⚠️ The entire village of Blatten, home to around 300 residents, was evacuated in advance. The collapse triggered a pressure wave felt kilometers away.

‼️ Debris breached protective dams, and damage to buildings in the village is likely. The glacier is currently moving at a rate of 10 meters per day, and experts warn that further collapses are expected.

🚨 A state of emergency has been declared in the region, and returning to the village is not yet possible. Experts emphasize that partial burial of Blatten remains a real possibility due to continued instability.
