Rewatching the series; “Hardhome”

Honestly imo this is the most important and impactful episode of the entire series. It’s so well done and that final scene with the boat drifting away while the night king reanimates everyone who just died a horrible death….the books are “a song of ice and fire” for a reason and this episode just exemplifies the real threat of the white walkers versus the petty squabbles of kings and queens.

TLDR: best episode in the entire series.

One of the best changes the show made was aging up the characters

I’ve been re-reading the books lately and every once in a while George reminds you how ridiculously young some of these characters actually are

Then you run into lines like:
\- “Khaleesi, you are with child”
\- “I know,” Dany told her
\- It was her fourteenth name day

And it just completely changes the feeling of the scene. In the show Daenerys already feels very young, but in the books you suddenly remember she’s basically still a kid going through all of this

Same with characters like Jon, Robb, and Sansa. A lot of their actions make more sense when you remember their ages, but at the same time some moments become genuinely uncomfortable to read

Honestly, aging them up in the show was probably one of the smartest adaptation decisions HBO made
