How to come up with a hit game idea?

One important factor to consider when choosing an idea for a game is whether it is original and innovative. While it is possible for a game with a familiar theme or gameplay mechanics to be successful, a unique and fresh concept can help your game stand out in a crowded market.

It is also important to consider your target audience. Think about what type of game would appeal to the players you are trying to reach, and tailor your concept accordingly.

Finally, consider the feasibility of your idea. Can it be realistically developed within your available resources and time frame? Is the market already saturated with similar games, or is there room for another entry?

Ultimately, the key to success in the game industry is to create a high-quality game that resonates with players. By focusing on innovation, a strong target audience, and feasibility, you can increase the chances of your game being a hit.

How much can a beginner earn in game development?

Our subscribers ask many different questions related to gamedev. We decided to publish answers to frequently occurring ones. For the most part, these are questions from gamedev newbies, so don't be too harsh on them.

Let's start with the most basic question: "I am a beginner game developer. Can you tell me how much I can earn on my games?"

The amount you can earn by creating your own game can vary widely depending on a number of factors, such as the type of game, how successful it is, and how you choose to monetize it. Some examples of different revenue streams for independent game developers include:

- Selling the game outright, either through digital storefronts like Steam or the App Store, or through physical copies.
- In-app purchases, such as selling virtual currency, power-ups, or additional levels.
- Advertising, such as displaying ads within the game.
- Sponsorship, where a company pays to have their product or brand included in the game.

It's also worth noting that some game developers choose to release their games for free, but then rely on other revenue streams such as in-app purchases or advertising.

It's difficult to provide an estimate of how much you could earn from creating your own game as it depends on many factors such as game genre, platform, target audience, marketing and many more. However, popular and successful games can generate millions of dollars in revenue.

7 myths about GameDev

There are a number of myths and misconceptions about game development that are often perpetuated in the industry. Some of the most common include:

1) Game development is easy and can be done quickly: In reality, game development is a complex process that often takes years to complete. There are many different stages of development that need to be completed, including concept design, prototyping, coding, testing, and bug fixing.
2) Game development is a solitary pursuit: While it is true that some game developers work independently, most games are developed by teams of people with different skills and expertise.
3) Anyone can make a game: While it is true that there are many tools available that make it easier for people to create games, it still requires a certain level of skill and knowledge to create a high-quality game.
4) Game development is only for young people: Game development is a profession that can be done by people of all ages and backgrounds. There are many experienced developers who have been in the industry for decades and continue to make great games.
5) Game development is only for programmers: While programming is a critical component of game development, it is just one aspect of the process. Game development also requires artists, designers, musicians, writers, and many other roles.
6) All game developers work for game studios: While many game developers do work for studios, there are also many independent game developers who work on their own games or on contract for other studios.
7) All games that are successful are profitable: Game development is a business and as such, many games that are successful in terms of popularity or critical acclaim, may not be profitable.

In consultation with our colleagues, we decided to start publishing small articles on game development.
We called this course "Gamedev for the Littlest". We understand that a lot of similar information is already available from other authors, but since this is our first such experience in creating courses, the choice fell on a relatively simple subject. We are already planning more complex and interesting topics for new courses!

The course will be absolutely free for everyone. A new article will be available approximately every two weeks. The first article will be published in July!
