🟢The dollar started the week stronger as hopes for a quick U.S.-Iran deal faded and markets again priced in prolonged tensions, higher oil, and renewed global inflation pressures.

🟢Traders are now focused on U.S. CPI, where a renewed pickup in inflation, combined with a still-solid jobs market, could keep the Federal Reserve cautious and even revive talk of another rate hike later this year.

➡️Without clear signs of stagflation emerging in the U.S., a significant, sustained drop in the dollar looks unlikely.

🛢 Oil Faces Risk Of A Second Shock

⏺Morgan Stanley says the oil market has entered a “race against time,” with strong U.S. exports and weaker Chinese imports so far stopping the Hormuz shock from sending prices back to 2022 highs. If the disruption lasts into June or beyond, this buffer could weaken and leave the market more exposed.

⏺Its base case is still a June reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, but if the standoff drags on, Brent could rise above current levels and even test the $130–$150 range.

📊 Analysis: Traders are betting on a reopening, not a full supply collapse, but the longer the crisis lasts, the higher the risk of an oil spike becomes, meaning the main shock is delayed, not removed.

💵Dollar Stays Strong on Inflation and Rising Oil

🟢The dollar neared a one-week high as elevated U.S. inflation pushed bond yields higher and the market has largely abandoned hope for rate cuts.

🟢Meanwhile, stalled peace negotiations kept oil prices elevated, giving the dollar another boost.

➡️High inflation, expensive oil, and a hawkish Federal Reserve are keeping the dollar strong. As long as this combination holds, pressure on risk currencies and support for the dollar index will continue.
