US bear market knocked down world stocks
Major indices have entered the bear market territory, breaking the 11-year bull-cycle. The Dow Jones index closed trading on Wednesday with a 20.2%
EuroStoxx50 fell to the levels of 2013, getting some support from buyers by the beginning of trading in Europe. From the peak levels on February 20, the index has already fallen by 30%.
The decline of markets demonstrates that investors consider the measures, announced by governments and central banks, to be insufficient.
Today it is the turn of the ECB to pull out its “monetary bazooka” as Lagarde doesn’t have room to delays with support measures.

Moment of glory for Bitcoin? Not so fast
Over the past 24 hours, Bitcoin has shown high volatility. The first cryptocurrency bounced to a local high of $7,900, slipped to $7,000 amid the European session, and then faced a massive dip, collapsing to $5,600. It was like a flash crash on the background of algorithmic trading.
It is likely that over the next few months, we may see what status Bitcoin has in the market — the approaching of halving overshadowed by coronavirus and turbulence in the markets.

Markets after Armageddon: Dead cat bounce or green shoots?
After the sharpest decline in its history the previous day, European markets are adding 1.5-3.0% at the opening of trading.
Investors are now trying to figure out if these are the first green shoots in the markets after Armageddon or a dead cat bounce? As always in such cases, it will take a certain degree of luck to guess the right answer.
Some signs suggest cautious optimism:
Gold has returned to growth.
Safe-haven currencies – the yen, the franc – are retreating from extremums.

Bit-comment: Bitcoin’s Bloodbath prove it is not safe-harbour
“Bloodbath” in the crypto market during the last 24 hours shortly won’t allow talking about Bitcoin as a protective asset, a safe-harbour, digital gold or an instrument for diversifying the portfolio during turbulence time in the traditional market.

The virus fears pushing markets to new lows
The Fed emergency cut the rate by 75 points to 0.00%-0.25% and measures from other Central Banks across the globe failed to keep the markets from a new wave of decline based on fundamentals.
The measures taken by China in late January and early February looked excessive, generating speculation that the situation in the country is much worse than reported. Nevertheless, this rapid lockdown and the near-military situation in many cities have managed to contain the spread of the disease.
Only now we are getting the signs of how quarantine impacts business activity. And they turned out to be much worse than economists thought.
Unprecedented measures to stabilize market volatility, although they have a chance of success, still do not allow us to say that the markets have already passed the bottom point

When will the markets return to growth? Here is the answer
In our view, market sentiments are pegged to the daily number of new infected. When China and Korea managed to seriously slow down the spread of the virus, markets returned to growth. In the first half of February, Asian indices were falling more in the countries with the biggest number of detected cases. Later, on February 21, European and American indices began to decline. And the turbulence is increasing in line with the growing number of new cases there.
If our observations are correct, the stock markets may gain ground for growth when the number of new cases start to decrease day after day. Yesterday we saw such a decline, although it is more of a formality. Worldometer showed 12,896 new cases on March 16, compared to 12,924 a day earlier.

The Monday collapse of US stocks was the third-largest in history (-12.9%) eclipsing the decline last Thursday. Earlier today, S&P500 jumped 5% and turned negative in just 90 minutes. US stocks are trading in different directions: S&P500 + 0.9%, Dow Jones -0.4%. The FTSE100 is down 1.6%, despite support in the form of a sharp decline in the pound.

DXY grew by 1.6% today, already returned to the peak levels of late February (to 3-years high). EURUSD crashed more than 1.7% collapse in ZEW index. GBPUSD returned to near 30+ years lows around 1.2050. AUDUSD sink below 0.6000 for the first time since 2003.
Over the past 4 hours, Gold grew from $1,460 to $1,520, while maintaining the extreme range of intraday fluctuations.
Brent in the spot market fell below $ 30.50, but the last hours stabilized at $ 30.8.
All eyes are on the US markets.

In the last 24 hours, Bitcoin little changed, standing near $5300 (-0.6%). Market participants are in the process of analyzing what happened. It can hardly be called a typical situation when the daily trading volume in the Bitcoin network (according to the CMC data) reaches almost $80B. By comparison, at the historic price peak at $20K in December 2017, the daily trading volume reached $23B.
More than 160K BTC moved to exchanges on March 13, the most substantial one-day increase since November 2017. Moreover, 281K Bitcoins, which had been untouched for 30 days, returned into circulation on March 11. The market is now tormented by the question of whether it is time to buy digital currencies.
The Crypto Fear & Greed Index grew by 3 points over the past 24 hours, but still in the "extreme fear" zone. As for cryptocurrencies, stablecoins have become safe-heaven here. And this can be considered a considerable achievement of the digital market, as it is tough to find such an asset in the traditional one.
