The old rally in the new year

Geopolitics got loud at the beginning of the year, but today it should give way to macroeconomic news as US employment data is published.

Robust November data has removed much of the fear that the worldโ€™s largest economy is slowing down. December data is expected to show growth by 150K-160K, which looks good after a jump of 266K a month earlier.

Fears of a full-fledged military confrontation between the US and Iran made the markets worry last week, but soon the situation returned to the previous course.

Another pleasant surprise for the markets from macrodata may finally remove all the obstacles for the growth of stock markets. A sharp deterioration in the data may alert the markets, returning doubts about the economyโ€™s ability to record-breaking 11th consecutive year.

For the dollar, the situation looks more complicated.

Bitcoin lost momentum, but markets believe in its 2020 outlook

As the crypto market began to grow in the first days of the year, the technical picture pointed to a significant overbought of the Bitcoin.

It is not surprising that now we are witnessing a rollback in prices. However, the cautious nature of the reversal suggests that the level of optimism is still quite high.

Bit-comment: Bitcoin griped between important levels

The market found support in the form of a 50-day average, as slight decline below this level increased the purchasing interest of the bulls. At the same time, a more important level โ€“ 200-day average โ€“ is now above the current price, acting as a pressure factor in the upward jumps.

Hunger for risk pulls markets up

Dow Jones and Nasdaq saw corrective pullback despite goldilocks Job report. After some ebb, the indices returned to growth on Monday. Investors aimed to big round numbers 30K and 10K, respectively.

Trade deal with the US may be economic suicide for China

The Chinese yuan has been rising steadily against the greenback in recent months, reaching 6.88 against the dollar due to the news of progress in the trade negotiations.

However, as many believe, the higher renminbi rate is part of the deal. And the big question is how far China should go in strengthening its exchange rate.

In the 1980s, Japan was at the place of China at the moment...

The crypto market came alive. For how long?

The crypto market has shown impressive dynamics since the beginning of the year. Bitcoin has added almost 5% in the last 24 hours and traded above $8,500. Bitcoinโ€™s jump has so far faced an critical obstacle in the form of a 200-day simple moving average.

Recently, waves of optimism have been mostly related to Bitcoin and selectively some altcoins. The most significant increase is demonstrated by the most famous bitcoin forks and anonymous coins. Bitcoin SV (BSV) jumped 25% in price, Bitcoin Cash (BCH) added almost 7%, Bitcoin Gold (BTG) jumped 24%, anonymous coin DASH jumped 20%, ZCash (ZEC) jumped 19%.

It will take some time to test the stability of the rally.

It seems for the first time that volumes of open positions by FxPro traders on GBPUSD are above that on EURUSD. It wasn't happening even in last year, during the most nervous Brexit tensions.

Data on prices in Britain turned out to be noticeably weaker than expected, with the deadline inflation fell to three-year lows in December. Core inflation slowed down to 1.4% y / y. This news reinforces dovish expectations for possible BoE's rate cuts later this year.

Earlier this week, we also saw disappointing GDP data, which unexpectedly fell by 0.3%, and before that, there were frightening falling retail sales. All this is evidence that the UK economy approached Brexit in a very wary state.

At the same time, the British markets dismiss weak data inspired by the positive mood on world markets. Over the past month and a half, world markets grew on anticipation of a trade agreement between the US and China, which could spur global growth. But now this theme may step back beyond round of weak regional data.
