FX market prepares for the marathon

Volatility of most popular currency pairs has sharply decreased in recent days, as EURUSD fluctuations were the lowest in the history of the common currency. It seems that it found balance near a significant round level of 1.1000, having a lack of drivers to form a new impetus.

However, experienced traders in the stock markets perceive the calm of the markets as a preparation for a remarkable leap. Traders often look at this as on a possibility of a drop after a long but relatively quiet growth. Itโ€™s like jumping into an elevator shaft after climbing stairs.

The lull in the currency market ends in a slightly different way.

Bit-comment: Bitcoin has settled and tries to grow

Bitcoin settled around $7,100 and started to grow. Investors wanted to make sure that the sell impulse dried up before they started buying. Bitcoin rose by 5% in the last 24 hours and traded around $7,600. The technical indicators showed that the benchmark cryptocurrency was oversold.

FX: The dollar index retreated from 98.4 to 98.2 on the recovery in demand for risk. EURUSD still stuck at 1.1000. GBPUSD corrected to 1.2930 after a jump by 0.9% to 1.2950 after YouGov poll forecast the biggest majority for Conservatives in more than 30 years. Foreign exchange market volatility remains low, further suppressed by US holidays.

Stocks: Futures for S&P500 retreated from their historic high amid concern over China-US relations. EuroStoxx 50 loses 0.3%, retreating from 4-year peaks. MSCI World adds 0.2% over last 24h. The VIX volatility index grew from 11.45 to 11.75.

Commodities: Brent failed to gain a foothold above $63.0 after reports of US reserves and production growth. Gold tramples at $1457, near the lows of the month.

Crypto: Bitcoin corrected to $7450 after the jump from $6800 to $7600. The top 10 altcoins range from + 3.3% (XLM) to + 8.3% (TRX).

Wake-up calls from Asia pressured the markets

South Koreaโ€™s manufacturing sector lost 1.7% in October, with Japanโ€™s monthly loss of 4.2%. These data should be considered not only as a signal of the weakness of these countries. They are vital exporters of equipment and goods for China and other Asian countries. These are early signs how much the world economy affected by trade disputes and this impact only gaining momentum.

Under these conditions, it is very remarkable to hear ideas that US stands out from the rest of the world with robust data and will gain when all others soften. This decoupling idea is dangerous because it is a repetition of a common 12-years old misconception.

Bitcoinโ€™s bounce bumped into the resistance

The end of the week turned out to be much more favourable for the crypto market than its beginning. Bitcoin was able to return from the area below $7,000 and clings to levels around $7,500. In June and October, this area was a significant support that now may become serious resistance.

Markets wait for the data to take a next step

This week the focus will be on Fridayโ€™s US employment data. However, markets will be monitoring secondary indicators during the week to assess better labour market trends in the US, which is now expected to increase employment by 190K.

Markets are close to pricing the fact that the lowest point of decline is already behind, as the easing of monetary policy is gradually bearing fruit. This seen in the upward reversal of business activity indices in the previous months, first in the US, then in China (see graph) and Europe.

Bitcoinโ€™s decline not sparked buyers interest yet

Bitcoin experienced significant price fluctuations during the weekend, jumped to $7,800 on November 30. However, by Monday morning the benchmark cryptocurrency had already turned down again and is traded at around $7,200 on reduced trading volumes.

At the moment, the price is out of investorsโ€™ focus as it may be too high for buyers and too low for sellers.
