USD grew and markets reversed down on new trade deal pessimism

The situation around the trade continues to get more complicated. US lawmakers passed two bills in support of protesters in Hong Kong. Markets have taken this information negatively as China is almost sure to saw it as interference in its domestic affairs.

Right now, the Fed convinced markets that it is taking a long pause in rate adjustments, predicting that the current levels will remain unchanged until the end of 2020. If we see the ECB, Bank of Japan or other large central banks willing to strengthen their easing, it may cause increased demand for the dollar.

Bit-comment: Bitcoin dipped under 8K

Bitcoin has sagged more than 2% in the last 24 hours and sank under $8K and major signal line MA200. Throughout the day, the price dynamics of Bitcoin was plenty diverse and sharp.

Despite all the obvious drama of the struggle, the trading volume remained almost unchanged at around $20 billion. Apparently, neither sellers nor buyers are not sure about the future prospects of the coin, so they froze in indecision.

Pump of monetary easing vs Draining markets

There is no doubt that markets would feel worse if a continually operating monetary easing pump did not fill the liquidity pool. A good example was the β€˜repo-gate’ in September when short-term lending rates jumped fourfold, and the Fed made temporary liquidity injection measures permanent.

The Fed is still very good at copying the tactics it used in the early 2000s. Greenspan struggled with declined production and investments, and the side effect was an unprecedented boom in housing lending, which eventually led to economic collapse.

Bitcoin: the motion is life

Bitcoin dipped under levels from where cryptocurrency flew on so-called Chinese FOMO.

The decline below the 200-day moving average opens the way to $5K, where the previous consolidation area is located. The crypto community suggests that the fall may be due to the capitulation of the miners, which is considered an extremely bearish signal for the benchmark coin.

US economy ignores the trade wars, helping USD

Stock markets are moving cautiously upwards, while volatility continues to contract, which could be taken as an early signal for a possible future explosion of market volatility.

On Friday, we saw a stark contrast between Europe and the US, according to the business activity indices.

The data show how responsive the US economy is to monetary stimulus, while in Europe, we are witnessing developing economic stagnation. This responsiveness of the US economy to a stimulus also allows stock markets to grow.

Crypto-winter is coming. Again

In just four days, Bitcoin lost $1,300 or 16% in price and touched 6500 at one point this morning. The total capitalization of the crypto market for the same period dropped by $37 billion.

A sharp drop below $7K opens the door for testing new lows closer to the lower boundary of $6K. The index of greed and fear turned out to be in the β€œExtreme Fear” mode at the level of 17, which indicates the panic moods among market participants.

Currency and stock volatility update lows. Is the reversal close?

It is easy to describe this market situation as complete lull, as both intraday trading ranges and expected volatility are decreasing. The VIX index – the index of the implied volatility of the S&P500 declined on Tuesday below 12.0 – the lowest since October 2018. Immediately after touching the local lows at 11.3 for VIX, the S&P500 turned down, losing more than 20% during the next 60 trading sessions.

There is a quite similar situation on the currency market where EURUSD volatility fell to 5-year lows. Many experienced currency market traders remember that alarming calm among the major currency pairs in early 2014th. After the calm EURUSD saw a continuous and robust trend, weakened by 22% from August 2014 to March 2015.

But one should note that the decrease in volatility is only a sign of calming the markets, not their reversal.
