Better than expected US CPI may ease the pressure on the dollar

Published US inflation data noted the continued its high growth rate. The core CPI (ex. food and energy) maintained a 2.4% y/y for the second month in a row. These data coincided with analysts' estimates; however, caused a slight strengthening of the dollar after the release, as traders probably put weaker inflation rates in quotes.

Bit-comment: Bitcoin stay afloat, despite some pressure

Bitcoin lost 1% in a day and trades around 8,400. It can be considered an excellent result, taking into account the opened deception with the integration of Alipay and WeChat.

We wrote earlier that the technical picture is on the buyers’ side for a short time. BTCUSD rose from the oversold area, which is regarded by the fans of the tech analysis as a buy sign.

Optimistic trade and Brexit comments pushed GBP up 2% and increase demand for risks

Investors' risk appetite increased noticeably in the second half of the week. Both unattainable deals β€” #Brexit and China-US β€” seem to have become a little closer. #GBPUSD jumped 2%, the most vigorous growth in the last seven months.

Preferably, risks for the Pound are tilted upwards so far, but the difficulties around the deal are still able to keep it from the growth.

US-China: economic damage despite trade deal optimism

Friday's partial deal was the most significant breakthrough in the 15-month long US-China trade dispute. The financial markets experienced considerable growth on the news, but took more cautious approach on Monday.

The signing of this trade agreement is similar to pick the lowest hanging fruits. But to get the deal done, more and more efforts will be needed with each phase.

The resent breakthrough is nomore than a pause in further tariff increases. However, the previous measures already hurt the economy.

Guessing the Brexit door
This week will be critical for the #GBP, which may result in increased volatility both downwards and upwards. Right now, positive market sentiment supported by hopes for approval of the UK exit from the EU, but it will be harder in the future.

Take a look at our Brexit timetable and potential impact of the events on the currency pairs with GBP and overall markets.

The regulators strangled Libra and get down to the GRAM

On crypto, instead of financial technology breakthrough and a "Brave new world", the more often we saw references to "1984", judging by how strong the governments' desire to get rid of even hypothetical competitors in the form of Libra and GRAM.

Bitcoin and some other cryptocurrencies appear to be considered as "unavoidable evil" by the authorities, but they see no threat in these projects. They don't see it yet. It's about the trade volumes: if we are talking about several fake billions of dollars, no one will waste the time of regulators.

Where GBP is heading now?

In less than a week, the #GBPUSD strengthened by 5% and #EURGBP by 4.3%.

Since last Thursday's rally, GBPUSD has come a long way from near 1.22 and touched 1.28 last night. At the time of writing, the pound corrected to 1.2750, although the pair remains above the critical 200-day moving average line at 1.2710. It often acts as an essential trend indicator. Fixing the pound above this line at the end of this week will be a necessary signal for the markets to end the devaluation period.
