Crypto shakes off the shackles of uncertainty

The crypto market is shaking off the shackles of uncertainty, rising nearly 4% from its low of $2.54T at the start of Asian trading to $2.63T at the time of writing, 2.3% above yesterday’s level. This is an impressive intraday reversal, comparable to what we saw in 2020 and 2024 following the US presidential elections: consolidation or a decline shortly before the elections was followed by steady growth for weeks once the situation became clearer. The latest surge suggests that markets are not particularly afraid of the Democrats, only of uncertainty.

Bitcoin fell to a daily low of $75.7K but quickly reversed course, rising nearly 4% from that low as risk appetite in the equity market increased and the US dollar weakened. The leading cryptocurrency found support in the same area where we saw a reversal in mid-September, avoiding a drop towards the $73K–$75K range, where the 200-day moving average and recent local lows are concentrated. However, it is still too early to confirm a reversal, as this would require a rise above $82K, near which the 50-day moving average and the most recent local high are located.

πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ Pre-market trading trends on the US stock market

πŸ“ˆ Positive trends are prevailing in the US stock market’s pre-market session, with clear outperformance among the largest companies by market capitalisation.

In the Financials sector, Berkshire Hathaway (BRK.B) is up 1.65%, while JPMorgan Chase (JPM) is up 1.72%.

In the Information Technology sector, Apple (AAPL) is up 2.53%, while NVIDIA (NVDA) is down 1.20%.

In the Consumer Discretionary sector, Amazon (AMZN) is up 3.89%, while in the Consumer Staples sector, Walmart (WMT) is up 2.69%.

The strengthening of heavyweights such as AAPL, MSFT, AMZN and the Financials sector points to a pronounced risk-on environment: investors are more actively embracing risk, supporting equity indices but limiting the dollar’s potential to strengthen as a safe-haven currency.

In the absence of signs of large-scale capital outflows from the US or a radical revision of Fed rate expectations, the dollar’s near-term performance is likely to remain subdued, depending primarily on yield differentials and economic data rather than on demand for safe-haven assets.

▢️ Pro News Weekly: Fed Shakes Markets

Welcome to Pro News Weekly!

πŸ’΅ The US dollar retreats as the Fed keeps interest rates unchanged but offers little indication of a December hike. Lower Treasury yields and concerns over Middle East tensions add further pressure, while elevated oil prices keep inflation risks in focus.

πŸ“ˆ The S&P 500 posts three consecutive days of gains as strong corporate earnings and IPO optimism support markets. Microsoft and Oracle impress investors, but disappointing Alphabet results wipe $300 billion from its market capitalisation. Meanwhile, SpaceX and Anthropic prepare for potentially record-breaking IPOs.

πŸͺ™ Gold resumes its decline as technology stocks come under pressure and weakness in Asian markets weighs on the precious metal. Its correlation with equities is increasing, with investors using gold to meet margin requirements. However, $4,000 remains a key support level, with a potential rebound depending on the Fed's next moves.

β‚Ώ Bitcoin strengthens its correlation with the Nasdaq Composite, reaching its highest level since May. Disappointing mega-cap earnings and elevated oil prices weigh on sentiment, pushing BTC towards the lower end of its $79,000–87,000 trading range. Meanwhile, prediction markets see just a 16% chance of Bitcoin returning to $100,000 by year-end.

πŸ“Š Next week, traders will focus on European inflation, US business activity and labour market data, alongside highly anticipated rate decisions from the Reserve Bank of Australia and Bank of England. Investors will also be watching the US mid-term elections and developments in the Middle East.
