πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ Pre-market trading trends on the US stock market

πŸ“‰ Negative sentiment is prevailing in the US stock market's pre-market session: major technology and financial companies are mostly trading lower, indicating that investors are adopting a cautious approach to risk.

In the Information Technology sector, NVIDIA (NVDA) is down 1.04%, while Broadcom (AVGO) is down 1.22%.

In the Financials sector, Berkshire Hathaway (BRK.B) is up 0.15%, while JPMorgan Chase (JPM) is down 0.98%.

In the Consumer Discretionary sector, Tesla (TSLA) is down 0.93%, while McDonald's (MCD) is up 0.03%.

Risk aversion in major liquid securities is creating short-term demand for safe-haven dollar assets: the dollar is receiving moderate support from inflows into Treasuries and the money markets, which is preventing it from weakening even against the backdrop of external factors.

Bitcoin is barely clinging to its uptrend

The crypto market accelerated its decline on Wednesday following a sell-off in big tech stocks and a surge in the likelihood of interest rate hikes after core inflation exceeded expectations. Market capitalisation fell to $2.72T (βˆ’2.8%), its lowest level in nearly a month. Of the top 100 coins by market capitalisation, only six are rising. Among the most liquid coins, declines range from βˆ’0.4% (Tron) and βˆ’1.5% (Hyperliquid) to βˆ’9.1% (Filecoin) and βˆ’8.5% (SushiSwap).

The sentiment index plummeted to 53, a new low since 17 September. As with Bitcoin, market sentiment is undergoing a crucial test of its readiness to turn the page on the bear market. Remaining in the upper half of the scale would indicate a fundamental shift in market sentiment, given that the index spent only a single day in that range between October 2025 and August 2026.

πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ Pre-market trading trends on the US stock market

πŸ“ˆ Mixed trends are prevailing in the US stock market's pre-market session: gains among a number of major companies are offsetting losses in the technology sector, while the overall picture does not indicate a marked flight from risk.

In the Information Technology sector, NVIDIA (NVDA) is down 1.73%, Apple (AAPL) is up 0.68%, while Microsoft (MSFT) is down 0.42%.

In the Communication Services sector, Alphabet (GOOGL) is down 0.75%.

In the Financials sector, Berkshire Hathaway (BRK.B) is up 0.88%, while Visa (V) is up 1.14%.

Under these conditions, the foreign exchange market is receiving mixed signals: risk appetite for certain blue-chip stocks is holding back demand for the dollar as a safe-haven asset, while weakness in parts of the technology sector is not generating a pronounced flow of capital either into or out of the dollar. As a result, the short-term trend for the USD remains largely neutral, with no clear momentum toward sustained strengthening or weakening.
▢️ GBP/USD. Larger triangle

Today is Thursday, October 15, and we’re going to talk about the British pound and its reaction to the inflation data that came out in the US yesterday. Let’s look at and discuss only the daily chart today.

The yen seized the moment

The selling of the USD, verbal interventions, and β€˜hawkish’ rhetoric from the BoJ have helped the yen.

The wide bond yield spread suggests the USDJPY uptrend remains intact.

▢️ Pro News Flash: Pound Under Pressure

πŸ’· The British pound is facing mounting pressure as investors weigh expectations of a Bank of England rate hike in November against slowing economic growth and persistent budget concerns. Sterling has reached a 16-month high against the euro, but speculators have increased their net short positions on the pound for three consecutive weeks, signalling growing caution.

πŸ“‰ The divergence between the UK and US economies is adding to the pressure on GBP/USD. Wall Street Journal experts have raised their 2026 US GDP growth forecast from 2.1% to 2.4%, while higher inflation, rising interest rates and a soft labour market threaten to weigh on UK business activity. Meanwhile, 30-year UK government bond yields have climbed above 6%, reflecting concerns over the budget and capital outflows.

🏦 Monetary policy could be another key driver. The Bank of England is expected to raise its repo rate from 3.75% to 4% in November, while the Federal Reserve may delay its next hike until December. If these expectations hold, borrowing costs in the US and UK could converge by next month, although elevated bond yields may limit the BoE’s room to tighten policy further.

πŸ“Š The outlook for EUR/GBP is also shifting. Net short positions on the euro have fallen to their lowest levels since February 2020. Bloomberg Economics expects the ECB’s deposit rate to reach 2.75% by the end of 2026 before easing to 2.5% by the end of 2027, while the BoE’s repo rate is expected to remain at 4% throughout the coming year. The big question is whether diverging growth prospects and central bank expectations will keep the pound under pressure.
