Bitcoin bulls are in no hurry

The crypto market has taken another step downwards, losing just over 1% in the last 24 hours to $2.83T. This marks a breakout from the range seen over the last few days, with an attempt to establish a downtrend this week. The bulls may be simply gathering strength ahead of the next upward surge. However, in the short term, the situation looks rather worrying against the backdrop of weakening stock indices and the bond market, as well as continued flight to the safe-haven US dollar. What makes this all the more interesting is that movements in the cryptocurrency market over the past day have been mixed. Among the most actively traded coins, the top performers were Near (+4.9%), Cosmos (+1.5%) and Tron (+0.5%). That said, the ratio of falling to rising coins is currently around 9:1. At the other end of the spectrum are Uniswap (βˆ’5.9%), Litecoin (βˆ’5.2%) and XRP (βˆ’5.1%).

The crypto market sentiment index has slipped to 64, remaining in the 'greed' zone but falling to its lowest level since 18 September. That said, we have observed a shift into bull-market territory since the second half of August, when the indicator confidently moved out of the 'fear' zone into 'greed', consolidating above 50. The ability to remain in the upper half of the spectrum could prove an important psychological boost for retail traders in the coming days, while a break below this level could intensify the sell-off.

πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ Pre-market trading trends on the US stock market

πŸ“‰ Negative sentiment is prevailing in the US stock market's pre-market session: major technology and cyclical companies are mostly trading lower, reflecting investor caution and a flight from risk.

In the Information Technology sector, NVIDIA (NVDA) is down 0.88%, while Broadcom (AVGO) is down 1.68%.

In the Financials sector, Berkshire Hathaway (BRK.B) is up 0.05%, while Bank of America (BAC) is down 1.08%.

In the Energy sector, Exxon Mobil (XOM) is up 2.13%, while Chevron (CVX) is up 1.88%.

Increased selling in large-cap shares points to risk-off sentiment. In the foreign exchange market, this creates conditions for moderate dollar support, driven by increased demand for safe-haven dollar assets and Treasuries, while interest in riskier currencies remains limited.

Bitcoin rebounds, Ethereum uptrend at risk

The crypto market capitalisation has fallen by a further 1.4% over the past 24 hours, seemingly maintaining its chosen pace. However, this impression is deceptive, as we witnessed a sharp downward move in US trading hours from $2.83T a day ago to $2.72T, followed by a recovery to $2.79T. A similar attempt to bounce back from lows is also evident in equities, fuelling risk appetite as the week draws to a close. Among individual coins, declines predominate, though some have surged. The top three performers are Basic Attention Token (+9.8%), Cosmos (+9.4%) and Immutable (+9.3%). Algorand (βˆ’8.7%), Near Protocol (βˆ’7.8%) and Bitcoin Cash (βˆ’6.3%) fared worse than the rest.

At the peak of its decline on Thursday, Bitcoin fell to $80.4K, touching its lowest level in the past three weeks and its 50-day moving average, where the balance shifted in favour of buyers. This moving average is often regarded as an indicator of the medium-term trend. It has performed this function admirably since July, when the price consolidated above it, and then the 50-day moving average acted as support in August. Yesterday’s dip provided further confirmation of buying interest during pullbacks.

πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ Pre-market trading trends on the US stock market

πŸ“ˆ A moderately positive trend is prevailing in the US stock market's pre-market trading.

In the Information Technology sector, NVIDIA (NVDA) is up 1.47%, Micron Technology (MU) is up 1.66%, while Microsoft (MSFT) is up 1.02%.

In the Communication Services sector, Alphabet (GOOGL) is up 0.70%.

In the Consumer Discretionary sector, Tesla (TSLA) is up 1.27%, while Amazon (AMZN) is up 0.80%.

The predominantly positive performance of the largest technology and consumer companies points to risk-on sentiment in the US: investor interest is shifting toward riskier assets, while demand for the dollar as a safe-haven remains subdued. Under these conditions, the short-term trend for the dollar is likely to remain neutral until new signals emerge regarding the Fed's interest rate policy.
