The altcoin market is thawing

The crypto market capitalisation has risen by over 2.2% in the past 24 hours to $2.66T, bringing it closer to the midpoint of the range seen over the past month. This time, the positive momentum was underpinned by rising stock indices and a general appetite for risk. The media noted that the start of a rate-hiking cycle is a positive rather than a negative event for risk appetite. However, in their reaction, cryptocurrencies slightly anticipated the subsequent rebound, which might have seemed surprising a day earlier, thereby regaining their status as a leading indicator for traditional markets. In our selection of the forty most liquid coins, none saw a decline. The top performers were NEAR Protocol (+30.1%), Uniswap (+26.2%) and Aptos (+17.9%). The heavyweights Tron (+0.1%, 8th by market capitalisation), Bitcoin (+1.4%, 1st), Ethereum (+1.8%, 2nd) and XRP (+1.8%, 5th) underperformed the rest. It appears that traders are cautiously shifting their focus towards altcoins, although neither the altcoin season index nor market sentiment has yet reached high levels.

Bitcoin has gained relatively modestly over the past 24 hours, marking the third consecutive day of gains and a recovery towards $77.5K. A rally up to the region near $82K could be a relatively easy ride for the bulls, but beyond that, they will have to contend with resistance from an established range, breaking out of which may require an external catalyst. If successful, the next upside target appears to be the $94K region, near which lies the 161.8% Fibonacci extension level following the August rally and subsequent consolidation. This is also where the upper boundary of the December 2025–January 2026 consolidation range lies. In our view, Bitcoin will postpone such an ambitious move until next week, as it faces pressure to take short-term profits ahead of the weekend.

πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ Pre-market trading trends on the US stock market

πŸ“‰ Negative trends are prevailing in pre-market trading on the US stock market.
In the Financials sector, JPMorgan Chase (JPM) is down 0.47%, while Bank of America (BAC) is down 0.30%.

In the Information Technology sector, NVIDIA (NVDA) is up 0.01%, while Apple (AAPL) is down 0.05%.

In the Health Care sector, Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) is down 0.30%, while Eli Lilly (LLY) is down 0.35%.

The predominance of declines among the largest companies is creating a risk-off environment: demand is shifting toward safer dollar-denominated assets and US Treasuries, which is providing short-term support for the dollar and preventing it from weakening, even amid mixed external factors.
▢️ Pro News Weekly: Fed Shakes Markets

Welcome to Pro News Weekly!

πŸ’΅ The U.S. dollar has surged following the Fed’s first rate hike since 2023, with 16 of 18 officials projecting one or two more hikes this year. Hawkish comments on inflation have added further fuel to the rally.

πŸ“ˆ The S&P 500 has closed lower on six of the last eight trading days as higher rates put pressure on equities, particularly tech stocks.

πŸͺ™ Gold has rebounded as Treasury yields stabilized and Brent prices fell, potentially reducing pressure on the Fed to continue tightening.

β‚Ώ Bitcoin fell after the Senate rejected the Clarity Act, despite $3.5 billion in ETF inflows during August and another $600 million in September.

Altcoins drive the rally as Bitcoin plays catch-up

The crypto market capitalisation has risen to $2.8T, its highest level since the end of January this year. Although Friday’s rally was followed by increased selling pressure, buyers have once again been dominating the cryptocurrency market since Sunday. As a result, by the start of active trading in Europe, market capitalisation was 6% higher than a week ago. Altcoins are once again the main driving force, following legislative initiatives by the SEC and CFTC. Their rise above May’s highs is a strong bullish signal of an uptrend. Over the past 24 hours, the top performers were NEAR Protocol (+24.4%), Avalanche (+14.5%) and The Graph (+10%), while the worst performers in our sample were Uniswap (-0.3%), Dash (+0.6%) and IOTA (+0.7%).

Bitcoin appears to be lagging so far, with a 5% gain for the week and a price of $81.6K. The price of the leading cryptocurrency has surpassed the key psychological level of $80K. Still, it has not yet technically broken through the resistance at the highs from early September and May. Last week closed above the 50-week MA, something that hasn’t happened since last November. The optimism surrounding altcoins is clearly boosting the bulls’ chances in BTC, but in this case, it is better not to get ahead of oneself by rushing to buy coins. In our view, this is already a bull market, but that does not rule out sudden pullbacks, so it is worth exercising heightened caution until clearer signals of a transition to active growth emerge.

πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ Pre-market trading trends on the US stock market

πŸ“ˆ Positive trends are prevailing in the US stock market's pre-market session.

In the Information Technology sector, NVIDIA (NVDA) is up 0.67%, while Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) is up 3.74%.

In the Financials sector, Berkshire Hathaway (BRK.B) is down 0.35%, while JPMorgan Chase (JPM) is up 0.86%.

In the Energy sector, Exxon Mobil (XOM) is down 1.11%, while Chevron (CVX) is down 0.93%.

Overall, market sentiment points to a risk-on mode: the rise in shares of the largest technology companies is fuelling interest in risky assets.

Demand for the dollar as a safe-haven asset remains subdued; a sustained strengthening of the US currency in these conditions is unlikely without additional drivers from the Fed or the macroeconomy.
