Today is the anniversary of the raid on Harper's Ferry led by John Brown that lasted from the 16th to the 18th October 1859. His goal was to initiate a slave rebellion. John Brown was captured and later hanged, making him the first person in the USA to be tried for treason.
He envisioned the Subtarranean Pass Way (a pun on the Underground Railroad) as a highway for slaves from the southern states to freedom in the north with the goal of draining the south of slaves. Sadly, it never came to pass.
His actions and his trial became an important development in the events that lead to the US civil war. His truth is marching on.
