Senior Software Engineer, Backend

As a backend engineer at Phantom you’ll be creating APIs, data pipelines and services that bridge the gap between the blockchain and the delightful experience our users have come to expect. This role is fully remote; however, we’re only open to candidates based in US and EU time zones. Currently, Phantom cannot support employees from the following countries and continents: Russia, Pakistan, Ukraine, Asia, Oceania, and Africa.
Responsibilities
Infrastructure:
You will help define how Phantom runs and deploys backend services to our millions of users.
Feature development: You will be owning backend features that support all our platforms (extension, mobile and desktop).
Interfacing with users: You will be interfacing directly with end-users and developers building on Phantom – supporting them and collecting feedback to inform the direction of the product.
Team building: You will be working with the team to create and foster a culture of raising the bar with each new hire.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science or related technical field or equivalent practical experience
- 5+ years full-time software engineering experience with some of the following technologies:
Typescript / NodeJS / Express
Docker / Terraform
AWS Lambda / Cloudflare Workers / Serverless
DynamoDB / SQS / Kinesis / Redshift
AWS / Cloudflare
Demonstrated interest in open and community-driven platforms
Nice-To-Have: experience in a blockchain based project
English language proficiency

- Write, review and improve Ruby and JavaScript code working in Unix environment.
- Collaborate with our product team to bring features from conception to completion.
- Develop features with an emphasis on consistency and integrity at all levels of the stack.
- Improve DesignFiles' engineering culture with an eye for best practices, code quality and code reviews.
- Actively contribute to the project with ideas and solutions to constantly improve the lives of our designers and their clients.
- Participate in Sprint Planning, Retros, 1:1s
What We Want From You:
- 5+ years experience as a full-stack developer.
- 3+ years of hands-on Ruby on Rails experience.
- Strong experience with Ruby on Rails: rubocop, minitest-spec-rails, delayed job, paperclip, paranoia, etc.
- Strong experience with modern JavaScript/CSS: Webpack, Gulp, eslint, prettier, BEM.
- Solid knowledge of unix shell, PostgreSQL, Docker, Node.js, AWS S3.
- Fluent English, good communication skills and full presence during agreed work hours.
- Taking responsibility for testing own code, thinking through the edge cases and ability to work productively without close supervision.
