🤖Elon Musk unveiled the Tesla Bot that is "intended to be friendly, and navigate through a world built for humans"

The bot is being proposed as a non-automotive robotic use case for the company’s work on neural networks and its Dojo advanced supercomputer.

“Basically, if you think about what we’re doing right now with cars, Tesla is arguably the world’s biggest robotics company because our cars are like semi-sentient robots on wheels,” Musk said. “With the Full Self-Driving computer, [ … ] which will keep evolving, and Dojo and all the neural nets recognizing the world, understanding how to navigate through the world, it kind of makes sense to put that on to a humanoid form.”

The bot is “intended to be friendly and navigate through a world built for humans,” he joked. Musk added that the Tesla Bot would eliminate "dangerous, repetitive, boring tasks".

🥡Yandex, one of Europe’s largest internet companies, and Grubhub, the leading online and mobile food-ordering and delivery platform on college campuses have rolled out delivery via Yandex’s robots at its first college campus — The Ohio State University (OSU).

50 Yandex robots are already delivering foods to some of the people who need it most - students, researchers and professors who are short on time.

📌If you are interested in bringing this delivery experience to your campus or somewhere else, please visit here.

Advances in artificial intelligence, brain electrodes, and bioelectronic medicine hold significant promise for patients after spinal cord injury or stroke.

From buttoning our shirts to holding a loved one’s hand, our sense of touch may be taken for granted until we lose it,” Chad Bouton, PhD, professor at the Institute of Bioelectronic Medicine at the Feinstein Institutes and co-principal investigator of the study.

🌱International Data Corporation (IDC) forecasts global spending on AI systems will jump from $85.3 billion in 2021 to more than $204 billion in 2025.

📍Retail and Banking are the two industries that will spend the most on AI solutions over the five-year forecast period with Retail spending growing at a slightly faster rate.
📍The two largest use cases in terms of total spending across all industries are Automated Customer Service Agents and Sales Process Recommendation and Automation.
📍The next five use cases were closely bunched at just over $5 billion in spending this year – IT Optimization; Automated Threat Intelligence and Prevention Systems; Program Advisors and Recommendation Systems; Fraud Analysis and Investigation; and Automated Preventative Maintenance.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is providing new opportunities which extend beyond cost reduction and efficient operations.
🎻The Nexus orchestra (formerly the Young Professionals Orchestra of French-speaking Switzerland) is preparing to perform an unfinished piece of Beethoven generated by artificial intelligence.

The piece will be performed at the Salle Métropole in Lausanne on the evening of Thursday September 2, and at the Victoria Hall in Geneva the next day.

🚀An AI-powered emotionally intelligent robot called CIMON-2, is ready for a new mission on the International Space Station.

🤖For now, CIMON has only been trained to navigate in the European Columbus module of the space station. The 11-pound (5kg) sphere floats around using its small air jets. A set of ultrasonic sensors together with a stereo camera help the robot navigate in space and avoid walls and equipment. CIMON is also fitted with a high-resolution camera that enables it to recognise faces of individual astronauts. Two smaller cameras on the sphere's sides are used to take pictures and videos. An overall nine microphones help CIMON to identify the source of sounds and detect and record speech.

👥The Commerce Departmenthas established a high-level committee to advise the President and other federal agencies on a range of issues related to artificial intelligence (AI).

AI presents an enormous opportunity to tackle the biggest issues of our time, strengthen our technological competitiveness, and be an engine for growth in nearly every sector of the economy,” said Secretary Raimondo. “But we must be thoughtful, creative, and wise in how we address the challenges that accompany these new technologies. That includes, but is not limited to, ensuring that President Biden’s comprehensive commitment to advancing equity and racial justice extends to our development and use of AI technology. This committee will help the federal government to do that by providing insights into a full range of issues raised by AI.” said Gina Raimondo, U.S. Secretary of Commerce.

📍The Department is now seeking to recruit top-level candidates to serve on the committee.

🔫An Israel-based company Elbit Systems developed the innovative system that transforms assault rifles into digital networked combat machines.

An Israel-based company Elbit Systems announced the unveiling of the ARCAS, a built-in computerized Artificial Intelligence (AI) powered system that transforms assault rifles into digital, networked combat machines enabling a step change in the lethality, mission effectiveness and survivability of dismounted soldiers in both day and night.

🕹ARCAS provides infantry and Special Operation warriors with combat capabilities, including: passive range measurement, automatic ballistic correction, detection of fire sources, video motion detection, the ability to shoot around the corner and from the hip, interface with tactical Command and Control (C2), navigation assistance, friend or foe identification, tracking of stoppage and ammunition and weapon zeroing without the need for live fire.

📰A study from MIT has used machine learning techniques to identify biased phrasing across around 100 of the largest and most influential news outlets in the US and beyond, including 83 of the most influential print news publications.

The work centers on the way topics are addressed with particular phrasing, such as undocumented immigrant | illegal Immigrant, fetus | unborn baby, demonstrators | anarchists.

The project used Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques to extract and classify such instances of ‘charged’ language (on the assumption that apparently more ‘neutral’ terms also represent a political stance) into a broad mapping that reveals left and right-leaning bias across over three million articles from around 100 news outlets, resulting in a navigable bias landscape of the publications in question.

🌐Facebook AI has made great strides in solving this problem with Instance-Conditioned GAN (IC-GAN), a new and simple image generation model that creates high-quality, diverse images of things it has never seen before.

📢With these new capabilities, IC-GANs could be used to create new visual examples to augment data sets to include diverse objects and scenes; help artists and creators with more expansive, creative AI-generated content; and advance research in high-quality image generation.

Scientists have created an AI that determines the salary according to the description of the vacancy

Scientists from the Stanford Institute for Artificial Intelligence have created an algorithm that allows users to estimate the level of wages based on job descriptions, according to VentureBeat.

To compare the dependence of the text of the ad and wages, the researchers collected more than a million records of the search for employees. They then used the BERT natural language processing model and processed 800,000 job openings with it.

In the process of testing the system on the remaining records, it turned out that the algorithm predicts the correspondence between the job description and salary with an accuracy of 87%. By comparison, using only ad titles and geographic locations produced accurate predictions only 69% of the time.

US urges to adapt patent law for AI

In the US business and intellectual property officials have called for patent laws to be rewritten to recognize modern AI technologies. It was reported by The Register.

The US Chamber of Commerce held a series of hearings where experts from academia, industry, and government raised issues hindering the development of modern AI models. Among them are the patentability of algorithms and the need to grant systems copyright to machine-made inventions.

According to the participants in the hearings, the existing legislation on intellectual property has not changed much since its adoption in 1793. Despite the wide category of patentable inventions, registration of machine learning models is still difficult. Experts insist on the need to amend the law so that machine learning systems can be recognized as new inventions.
