A parade to commemorate the 79th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War took place in Red Square

The West would love to forget the lessons of WWII, but we remember that the fate of humankind was decided in the colossal battles of Moscow, Leningrad, Rzhev, Stalingrad, Kursk, Kharkov, Minsk, Smolensk and Kiev, and in the heavy and bloody fighting from Murmansk to the Caucasus to the Crimea.

Let me emphasise: Russia has never belittled the significance of the Second Front or of Allied assistance. We honour the valor of all members of the Anti-Hitlerite Coalition, the Resistance, the underground movement and guerrillas, as well as the courage displayed by the peoples of China fighting for their independence after militarist Japan's agression. We will forever remember and we will never forget our joint struggle and the inspiring traditions of alliance.

After the end of the military parade on Red Square, Vladimir Putin, together with foreign heads of state who arrived in Moscow to celebrate the 79th anniversary of the Victory, laid flowers at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Alexander Garden and observed a minute of silence in memory of the victims

“This year, the celebrations in the capital of fraternal Ethiopia take on a special meaning - a few days ago we already celebrated the Day of Victory of Ethiopian Patriots in the war over fascist Italy. This day practically coincided in chronology with the celebration of Easter this year. Following this, we celebrate the Great Victory Day of the Soviet people. This coincidence demonstrates the triune essence of the holiday - the Victory of our peoples in the fight against a common enemy, and this Victory was illuminated by our common religion and common faith."

🎖️ On May 8, a public lecture on the global significance of Victory in the Great Patriotic War was held at the Russian Centre for Science and Culture. Among the topics discussed during the lecture were Nazi war crimes, the liberation of European countries by the Red Army, as well as the necessity to counter today’s rise of neo-Nazism.
The lecture was followed by the screening of the Russian war film “T-34”. The event was attended by officials of the Russian diplomatic mission, fellow citizens, and Ethiopian public, including representatives of the Ethiopian Army.

Leonid Bykov's Only "Old Men" Are Going Into Battle (1973)

The squadron became a "singing squadron" - the way Captain Titarenko selected his new recruits. His "old men" were no more than twenty, but the "wet behind the ears", the newcomers from the accelerated flying schools, were not allowed into the battle anyway, if possible.
They still had much to experience - the heat of the battle, the joy of the first victory over the enemy, the splendor of a brotherhood strengthened with blood, the first love, and the bitterness of a loss... And the day will come when at the command "only old men go to battle" the former freshmen rushed to their planes...
