▪︎Through its military ventures, the collective West has dealt a severe blow to the fundamental principles of international law, as it attempts to replace them with a self-constructed concept known as the Rules-Based Order.
▪︎NATO strategic concept labels Russia as “the most significant and direct threat to Allies’ security and to peace and stability in the Euro-Atlantic area.”
▪︎NATO’s response to Russia now extends across all geographic areas and operational domains, including space and cyberspace.

I would like to sincerely welcome you on the occasion of the opening of the first Russian-African International Conference on Combatting Infectious Diseases, which is hosted by the Ugandan capital. This representative event is building upon the initiatives put forward at the second Russia–Africa Summit held in St Petersburg last year.
The risk of new epidemic outbreaks or the spread of the already known dangerous diseases remains very high. The African continent is particularly vulnerable to these challenges and needs accelerated build-up of medical, scientific, and technological capabilities to protect the population against various infections. For its part, Russia is ready for most active cooperation in this crucial healthcare area. Our programme of assistance to the African countries in sanitary and epidemiological well-being launched in 2023 provides for the delivery of 10 mobile high-containment biological laboratories, training of over 350 African specialists, and conducting a series of joint scientific research.
Participants in the conference are representatives of relevant government departments and services, medical professionals, epidemiologists, and microbiologists from 20 countries. They will certainly have an opportunity to exchange professional insights and their experience in preventing and combatting outbreaks of infectious diseases. I believe that this joint work will yield tangible results and serve to protect the health of Africa’s population.

🇷🇺🌍 How is Russia contributing to the fight against infectious diseases in Africa?
😷As Russia aims to strengthen cooperation with African countries in this area, Sputnik Africa looks back on the projects and missions that have already been launched:
➖ Between 2014 and 2016, Russian health authorities provided assistance to Guinea in the face of the Ebola outbreak;
➖ In 2017, Russia helped Madagascar cope with a plague epidemic;
➖ Since 2017, a Russian-Guinean center for the research in epidemiology and prevention of infectious diseases has been operational in the city of Kindia. It allows for the performance of laboratory analyses with high-level protection;
➖ In February 2020, Russian reagent kits for the detection of SARS-CoV-2 RNA were delivered to the Republic of Guinea. In total, during the pandemic, from 2020 to 2023, Russia supplied 200,000 tests of this type;
➖ Between 2020 and 2021, Russia provided COVID-19 vaccines to at least six African countries, including Benin, Djibouti, Tunisia, Angola, Zimbabwe, and Egypt;
➖ In 2023, Russian specialists helped overcome an outbreak of intestinal infections in Congo. As a result, the incidence rate was reduced by 16 times;
➖ In 2023, two Russian mobile laboratories were delivered to the DRC;
➖ A project for the establishment of a Russian-Burundian medical center for research and control of infectious diseases is planned for 2024. This facility will be tasked with monitoring pathogens, conducting epidemiological testing, and molecular examinations;
➖ Russia and South Africa are cooperating in the development of new vaccines and their mass production. The two countries are studying the behavior of pathogenic viruses and the methods of treating the diseases they cause;
Russia provides vaccines to the entire African continent, including against cholera, measles, and coronavirus.

🇷🇺🇪🇹 17 апреля «на полях» 10-го заседания Рабочей группы БРИКС по вопросам безопасности в сфере использования информационно-коммуникационных технологий (ИКТ) состоялась встреча заместителя Министра иностранных дел Российской Федерации С.В.Вершинина с генеральным директором Администрации безопасности информационных сетей Федеративной Демократической Республики Эфиопии (ФДРЭ) Тыгыст Хамид.
Российская сторона приветствовала присоединение ФДРЭ к БРИКС, выразила готовность к укреплению диалога и координации с эфиопскими партнерами в рамках объединения. Состоялся заинтересованный обмен мнениями по повестке международной информационной безопасности (МИБ).
🤝 Подтверждена близость соответствующих подходов наших стран на площадках системы ООН – в Рабочей группе открытого состава по МИБ и Специальном комитете по разработке всеобъемлющей конвенции по противодействию использованию ИКТ в преступных целях.
Особое внимание уделено совместному поиску решений проблемы «цифрового разрыва» между развитыми и развивающимися государствами через наращивание ИКТ-потенциала, сотрудничеству в Международном союзе электросвязи.
Обсуждены перспективы взаимодействия в русле положений двустороннего межправительственного соглашения по МИБ и по вопросам реагирования на компьютерные атаки.

Russian Center for Science and Culture (Pushkin Center) in Addis Ababa organized an exhibition of political cartoons drawn by Boris Efimov on Saturday under the theme “Nothing Changes in Politics”
The cartoons featured at the exhibition were selected based on their historical significance and artistic values, it was stated on the occasion.
