🪐The first man in space! Exactly 63 years ago, Yuri Gagarin flew around the Earth. The era of manned cosmonautics began from this day. Gagarin launched from Baikonur Cosmodrome in the Vostok-1 spacecraft and landed 108 minutes later in the Saratov Region, Russia.

To millions, the cosmonaut was the embodiment of both Soviet heroism and Russian folk legend: an ordinary village guy turned world hero. Fame, however, didn't change Yuri, and many claim he stayed the same kind-hearted modest man. Learn more about him in our unique documentary 'Gagarin'.

🇪🇹🎨 World Art Day: Ethiopian painter Lulseged Retta reflects on artistic journey and his Russian legacy

Art serves as a mirror of the country and is a "great tool" for the world to diversify understanding, Lulseged Retta, one of the most recognizable Ethiopian artists, told Sputnik Africa.

Addis Ababa native, Retta, who received his Master’s Degree in Fine Arts with distinction from the Saint Petersburg Academy of Arts in 1986, reminisced about his formative years in Russia, highlighting the approach to art education and the profound impact of his Russian professors.

"The academy gives one of the important things: to understand what is art," the artist pointed out, adding that most Ethiopian artists at the time were educated in Russia. "I'm leading my life through that background. I really would like to thank, all my teachers who taught me, [...] they gave us a very good lesson to be who am I right now so. (sic) "

“Anniversary of defeat: NATO’s troubled past”: The article by H.E. Ambassador Evgeny Terekhin (The Reporter)
︎Through its military ventures, the collective West has dealt a severe blow to the fundamental principles of international law, as it attempts to replace them with a self-constructed concept known as the Rules-Based Order.
︎NATO strategic concept labels Russia as “the most significant and direct threat to Allies’ security and to peace and stability in the Euro-Atlantic area.”
︎NATO’s response to Russia now extends across all geographic areas and operational domains, including space and cyberspace.
︎NATO aims to form a coalition with an anti-Russian and anti-Chinese orientation.
The goals of NATO, regardless of the rhetoric used to package them, remain consistent with those of 75 years ago: preserving global dominance and the hegemony of a select group of countries while maintaining conditions conducive to the exploitation of other peoples and nations.

Vladimir Putin sent a message of greetings to the participants, organisers, and guests of the first Russian-African International Conference on Combatting Infectious Diseases.
I would like to sincerely welcome you on the occasion of the opening of the first Russian-African International Conference on Combatting Infectious Diseases, which is hosted by the Ugandan capital. This representative event is building upon the initiatives put forward at the second Russia–Africa Summit held in St Petersburg last year.
The risk of new epidemic outbreaks or the spread of the already known dangerous diseases remains very high. The African continent is particularly vulnerable to these challenges and needs accelerated build-up of medical, scientific, and technological capabilities to protect the population against various infections. For its part, Russia is ready for most active cooperation in this crucial healthcare area. Our programme of assistance to the African countries in sanitary and epidemiological well-being launched in 2023 provides for the delivery of 10 mobile high-containment biological laboratories, training of over 350 African specialists, and conducting a series of joint scientific research.
Participants in the conference are representatives of relevant government departments and services, medical professionals, epidemiologists, and microbiologists from 20 countries. They will certainly have an opportunity to exchange professional insights and their experience in preventing and combatting outbreaks of infectious diseases. I believe that this joint work will yield tangible results and serve to protect the health of Africa’s population.
