WHAT'S THE DATE TODAY

The more dependent we are upon the Gregorian calender the more negligent we become of Allāh's rulings

Firstly, “The Gregorian calendar is named after Pope Gregory XIII, who introduced it in October 1582.” [Wikipedia]

Whereas the Hijri calender was introduced by ‘Umar ibnul Khaṭṭāb -raḍhiyallāhu ‘anhu- and named after the most significant incident in the propagation of Islām; the Prophet's migration (Hijrah) from Makkah to Madīnah.
[Ibn Ḥajar - Fat-hul Bāri (7/268) & Ibn Kathīr - Al-Bidāyah wan Nihāyah 4/510]

Secondly, the Gregorian calender is a solar calender, hence a year in the Gregorian calender consists of 365 days (approximately). On the other hand, the Hijri calendar is based on the lunar calendar, which means one year in the Hijri calender consists of approximately 354.36 days; that's 10.88 days fewer than the Solar calendar.

Essentially, that means a teenager reaches 15; the age of bulūgh (adolescence), 163.2 days earlier according to the lunar calendar. It's very important to bear this mind - especially for those who haven't undergone any other sign of bulūgh!

Thirdly, every time based ruling in Islam is dependent on the lunar/Hijri calendar - not the Gregorian calender❗️

Allāh ﷻ said:

{یَسۡـَٔلُونَكَ عَنِ ٱلۡأَهِلَّةِۖ قُلۡ هِیَ مَوَ ٰقِیتُ لِلنَّاسِ وَٱلۡحَجِّ}

“They ask you ˹O Prophet˺ about the phases of the moon. Say, “They are a means for people to determine time and pilgrimage.”
[Surah Al-Baqarah 189]

Imām As-Sa‘dī comments on this Āyah in his Tafsīr, saying:

{They ask you about the phases of the moon}: what is the wisdom behind them? Or they ask about the moon phases themselves. {Say: They are a means of determining time}. By His grace and mercy, Allāh (ﷻ) has caused it (the moon) to change; so it appears weak at the beginning of the month, then it gradually increases until halfway through the month, then it begins to decrease until the end of the month. This is so that the people will know thereby times for their acts of worship, such as fasting, as well as the times for paying Zakāh and offering
expiation, and the time of Ḥajj.
Because Ḥajj takes place during certain well-known months and
takes a long time, Allāh says {and pilgrimage}. From the phases of the moon people also know the times for paying off deferred debts, rental
periods, the length of the ‘iddah and pregnancy, and other matters that have to do with people’s affairs. Allāh has made it a means of working out times that is available to everyone, young and old, knowledgeable and ignorant. If times were calculated according to the solar calendar, no one would know it except very few people.❞

Fourthly, Sheikh Muqbil -raḥimahullāh- was asked, what is the ruling on using the Gregorian calender?

He answered: It is considered blindfollow [the Kuffār], and the Prophet ﷺ said, “Whoever imitates a people, then he is from them.” I advise to use the Hijri calendar. And Allāh is the One Whose aid is sought. Essentially brothers, they don't want to leave off any of the milestones of Islām, except that they want to eradicate them.

Lastly, did you know -oh noble reader- that we have entered the sacred month of Dhul Qi‘dah?

What does that mean exactly

Starting now inshaallaah. Wallaahu alam

▪️He is the Exalted in Might, the Forgiving▪️

Our Shaykh, Abu Abdillah Muhammad ba Jamaal - may Allaah preserve him - said in his Tafsir of Surah Al-Mulk:

🔸▪️🔸▪️🔸▪️🔸▪️🔸▪️🔸▪️

Benefit:

Allah the Mighty and Majestic said:

{وَهُوَ الْعَزِيزُ الْغَفُور}

"He is the Exalted in Might, the Forgiving” [67:2]

⤵️The Shaikh explained that this means:

‘Allah is extremely powerful in taking to account all that disobey and oppose His command. And He is the Most Honorable, Ever-Invincible. Yet with all of this ultimate power, He is Ever-Forgiving to the one that repents to Him from his mistakes then leaves them to return to His Lord.

And He combines between these two names to clarify to His servants the greatness of His forgiveness for them and to show the completeness of His power over them.

And His saying,

{الْغَفُورُ}

“The Forgiving”

This name comes on the scale in Arabic that means to do alot of. And this points to Allah’s great and tremendous forgiveness and in the numerous amounts that He forgives and it also shows how much the servant sins.

And the proof of Allah's amazing forgiveness is the hadith Qudsi that Imaam Muslim compiled from Abu Dhar (رضي الله عنه)

“ And he who meets Me in the state that his sins fill the earth, but not associating anything with Me, I would meet Him with the same (vastness) of pardon (on My behalf)."

And also the supporting hadith that Imaam Tirmidhi reported on the authority of Anas ibn Malik (رضي الله عنه) also from Abu Dhar that the Prophet(صلى الله عليه وسلم) said,
‏ ‏ ‏
‘O son of Adam! Verily as long as you called upon Me and hoped in Me, I forgave you, despite whatever may have occurred from you, and I did not mind. O son of Adam! Were your sins to reach the clouds of the sky, then you sought forgiveness from Me, I would forgive you, and I would not mind. So son of Adam! If you came to me with sins nearly as great as the earth, and then you met Me not associating anything with Me, I would come to you with forgiveness nearly as great as it.'

So oh servant of Allah, the one constantly committing mistakes and disobeying his Lord, never despair of the mercy of Allah. Know that if you repent to Allah, He forgives all sins, again and again and again.

🎙"Race! Race in benefiting.

Try O student of knowledge to benefit early.
How do you benefit? You memorise the Qurān and be proficient in it, and you memorise the Sunnah and be proficient in it, and you take those lessons which you need and be proficient in them. Hasten, I am to you an advisor. Don't delay and say the affair is easy, like it is said "fāhinah" (easy). Don't delay. Consider this month by Allāh it is a treasure. You will regret (not taking) this opportunity. And the Sunnah is a treasure. A year and you persevere in seeking knowledge continuously. By Allāh this a great Treasure! So hasten with benefitting. This is not that you leap and rush with seeking knowledge. No, rather what it means is focus, focus until you benefit early and you benefit and take advantage of that. For the age is an opportunity and the time is an opportunity... And Dār ul Hadith is an opportunity. It is possible that you study in any school or in any department, however Dār ul Hadith is a favourable opportunity that won't return.

Dār ul Hadith, where a person is able to acquire sciences in Arabic grammar and pure creed without difficulty and without being charged money.

So I say hasten, may Allāh reward you with good."

Sufyan Ath-Thawri [رحمه الله] said:

"Behave well in your private life and Allaah will make your public life excellent.

Take care of what is between you and Allaah, and he will take care of what is between you and the people.

Work for your Hereafter and Allaah will suffice your affairs in this world.

Sell your worldly life for your Hereafter and you will profit in them both together, and do not sell your Hereafter for your worldly life or you will lose them both together."

▪️The Weakness of the Muslims in their Qur'an▪️

Our Shaykh, Abu Abdillah Muhammad ba Jamaal -may Allaah preserve him- was asked:

📥 Question:

We are a group of brothers who establish the Sunnah of offering night prayers (in congregation). We have memorised the Qur'ān, but our memorisation is weak and we make a lot of mistakes. What do you advise us with?

📤 Answer:

By Allaah! This lockdown has exposed for Muslims their weakness in terms of the Qur'an.

It has exposed their weakness in terms of the Qur'ān.

A man comes seeking to pray Tarawīh with his family, but the man hasn't memorised (the Qur'ān), the son hasn't memorised (the Qur'ān) and the brother hasn't memorised (the Qur'ān).

Now they have realised their weakness. They have come to realise their weakness in terms of the Qur'ān. And this is a manifest shortcoming on the part of the Muslims.

And although some of them hold doctorates, professorships, or bachelor's degree, when it comes to the Qur'ān, their level is below kindergarten.

In terms of the Qur'ān, they don't even have a kindergarten diploma. This, by Allāh! Is a (clear) shortcoming.

And with these lockdown measures in place in many countries, and with the prevention of Tarawīh prayers in the masjid and people praying at home, they have come to realise their weakness in terms of the Qur'ān; and that they cannot even recite the Qur'ān in order to lead others in prayer.

For this reason, we encourage with memorising the Qur'ān and being concerned with the Qur'ān.

Can a woman raise her voice at her husband?

Our Shaykh Abū Bilāl Al-Hadaramī - may Allāh preserve him- was asked on 10th Dhul Qa'dah 1441 (1st July 2020):

📝🔹Question:

Is it permissible for a woman to raise her voice above her husbands?

📩🔸Answer:

It is not permissible for her and this is not from obedience or a good relationship. The Prophet ﷺ certainly said:

[" لَوْ كُنْتُ آمِرًا أَحَدًا أَنْ يَسْجُدَ لِأَحَدٍ لَأَمَرْتُ الْمَرْأَةَ أَنْ تَسْجُدَ لِزَوْجِهَا لعظم حَقِّهِ عَلَيْهَا".]
If I were to order anyone to prostrate to anyone else I would have ordered the woman to prostrate to her husband due to his enormous right upon her. [1]

And he ﷺ says:

If from his foot until the middle of his head there was a sore leaking pus and residue and then she engaged in licking it she will not have fulfilled his right. [2]

Yet this (woman) raises her voice at him. This (woman) has a lack of manners with her husband so it is appropriate for her to improve her manners with her husband and not raise her voice at him.

Or she is ignorant about her religion, so you find this from her. It is not a lack of manners, rather she is ignorant and thinks this matter is normal.

And it is Allāh from whom aid is sought.

📝🔹Question:

What if the husband is in the wrong?

📩🔸Answer:

This is still not approriate. She should advise him and point this out to him in the best possible manner.

"It Can Almost Be Said That This Is An Abandoned Sunnah"

Ibn Rajab, may Allaah have mercy upon him, said:

"And the remembrance of Allaah is not specific to the time of slaughtering, rather it's a sign of giving thanks to Allaah that He has made it subservient to His servants and from the remembrance of Allaah during all of these ten days is magnifying Him and the saying of Allaahu Akbar, Alhamdulillaah, and laa ilaaha illallaah, and it can almost be said that this is an abandoned Sunnah."

[Lataa'if Al-Maa'rif, Pg. 471]

On the Authority of Ibn 'Umar, may Allaah be pleased with them, that the Prophet ﷺ said:

"There are no days greater with Allaah nor more beloved to Him for actions to be performed within then these ten days so say much Allaahu akbar, alhamdulillaah and laa ilaaha illallaah".

[Ahmad No. 5446. Authenticated by shaykh Al-Albaanee in Al-Irwah no. 890 & Fathul-Baaree by Ibn Rajab, Vol. 6, Pg. 88]
