🧵 Frontline Sentinel – Yampil (Lyman Operational Sector) Donetsk Oblast 07/10/2025

🇷🇺Russian Advances: As of early October, Russian forces have conducted a series of assaults towards the settlement of Yampil, Lyman region, establishing positions within the eastern sector of the village gaining control over at least 1km² of territory located within the sector.

📍 Mapped Territorial Changes: As of the 7th of October 2025, Ukrainian mapping project “Deepstate Map” reported an extension of the grey zone within the Yampil sector acknowledging Russian advances within the region. Neutral mapping project “Suriyak Map” also confirmed advances of Russian forces in the Yampil territory stating that Russian forces had partial control over the rail tracks positioned to the north of the settlement including the Yampil railway station.

📚 OSINT/HUMINT: Ukrainian Special Operation Forces (SOF) of the 8th regiment reported engagements against Russian DRG, Sabotage and Reconnaissance Group (SRG) in the Yampil region, Donetsk Oblast as of late September/early October. One of the operators belonging to the Ukrainian SOF 8th Regiment who participated in multiple counter offensive operations in the region stated that the Russian DRG were attempting to breakthrough into Yampil and gain positions to create a bigger bridgehead to launch further assault operations in the Lyman direction. The Ukrainian Special Operations Operator explained that the 8th Regiment advanced upon Russian positions with western supplied HUMVEE vehicles equipped with Electronic Warfare (EW) and cage armour to counter drone attacks. Upon reaching the Russian DRG positions 8th regiment began to clear the eastern sector of the village of Yampil taking part in heavy close quarters combat (CQC) dealing several losses on Russian DRG and capturing at least one. The operator explained that although the attack was repelled and the position was liberated it was only a matter of time before Russian forces launched continued attacks towards Yampil due to its strategic position and due to lack of basic support in this sector it would gradually become more unsecure.
🇷🇺 Russian sources: Russian telegram channels reported that Russian forces expanded their attacks in the north of the village of Yampil and are attempting to also assault the central areas of the village from the northwest. Russian telegram channels reported engagements with Ukrainian forces near the Tserkva Mykoly Chudotvortsya Church and stated that Ukrainian counter attacks are slowing progress within the region.

🎯 Strategic Significance: Russian forces continue expanding their flanking operations around the city of Lyman, Donetsk Oblast attempting to launch a gradual encirclement of the city via the Yampil Forest. Russian forces gaining more positions within the settlement of Yampil adds pressure on the southeastern axis of the Lyman frontline and greater expands overall pressure along the entire Lyman frontline. The capture of Yampil will allow Russian forces greater opportunities to launch deep offensive operations in the Lyman operational area towards Sloviansk city and Siversk, whilst simultaneously gaining Russia more favourable defensive positions along the northern bank of the Siverskyi Donets River.

🧵 Frontline Sentinel – Dobropillia Axis, Donetsk Oblast (18/10/2025)

🇷🇺 Russian offensive
The situation on the Dobropillia sector of the front remains dynamic and tense. Maintaining stability here is difficult, as significant Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF) units are engaged on other fronts. In contrast, Russian command has concentrated strike forces on this axis. Between 10 and 18 October, Russian forces attempted to expand their breakthrough. Of particular note is the use of equipment in a combined attack on Volodymyrivka, involving around 20 pieces of heavy equipment and 6 motorcycles. The assault was launched from the direction of Novotoretske and Popiv Yar.

📍 Mapped Territorial Changes
At present, the situation on this sector of the front is highly fluid, making it impossible to accurately determine the areas of control.

📚 Open-Source Information
🇷🇺 Russian sources
Pro-Russian war correspondents and Telegram channels confirm the reported Russian gains and add details. According to their information, Russian units entered the eastern outskirts of Shakhove and are attacking UAF positions on the western side of the village, attempting to cut the road to Oktyabrske. Other Z-channels also reported Russian advances near Nykanorivka and Zolotyi Kolodiaz despite heavy resistance.

🇺🇦 Ukrainian sources
The UAF General Staff confirms the tense situation near Dobropillia. According to their reports, the Pokrovsk sector saw the highest number of engagements during this period — for example, on 21 Septeber alone, Russian forces launched 34 assault operations. Fighting occurred near the settlements of Pankivka, Nykanorivka, Novoekonomichne, Chervonyi Lyman, Promin, Chunyshyne, Zvirove, Udachne, Kotlyne, and Dachne. However, all attacks were repelled by Ukrainian defenses. Operational Command “East” stated that the situation on the Pokrovsk axis remains extremely tense: the enemy has concentrated significant forces there and is conducting constant artillery and air strikes, but all attempts to breach the defense have failed.

🎯 Strategic Value
Active attempts by both sides to trim salients continue. The use of heavy Russian equipment may indicate the transfer of better-trained units, and the intensification of assault activity could be an attempt to organize an encirclement ahead of possible peace talks in order to strengthen Russia’s negotiating position.

🚨 Strike Track Alert
Russia Expands Its Glide Bomb Strikes — A Growing Threat to Ukraine’s Cities

For the first time, a Russian aerial bomb has struck a target in the Odesa region, marking a major escalation in the reach of Moscow’s long-range strike capabilities.

Recent reports indicate that modified glide bombs—now capable of traveling up to 350 kilometers—could soon place Kyiv and other major population centers within range.

These rocket-assisted aerial bombs pose a particularly serious threat to the civilian population:

1. They can carry large explosive payloads, causing massive destruction even from a single strike.
2. Their ability to alter course mid-flight makes them extremely difficult to intercept, even with advanced air defense systems.

🇷🇺 Russian offensive
Russian forces have carried out offensive operations against Karantynnyi Ostriv Island in the Dnieper River and carried out raids in the Korabel district of Kherson city itself reaching the right bank of the Dnieper River. Russian VDV soldiers infiltrated Marii Fortus St and took a photo as evidence to show that they were able to reach the Kherson city district without resistance

📍 Mapped Territorial Changes
Neutral mapping project Suriyak map expanded the grey zone around Karantynnyi Ostriv Island acknowledging ongoing battles for the island. Pro Ukrainian mapping project has not yet acknowledged ongoing hostilities within the region.

📚 Open-Source Information
Russian airborne (VDV) Telegram channel reported launching a massive artillery barraged against the island before Russian forces stormed Ukrainian positions and shelters, The VDV reported that Ukrainian forces attempted to push counterattack, but all attempts ultimately failed and work of the VDV is ongoing in taking the island. In addition to statements given, Russian VDV also released images that have been geolocated to Karantynnyi Ostriv Island confirming Russian capture/presence.

🎯 Strategic Value
The Russian advance and confirmed presence on Karantynnyi Ostriv Island represents a broader operational effort to reestablish control along the right bank of the Dnieper River near Kherson City. Holding positions on the island provides Russian forces with tactical advantages in reconnaissance, artillery targeting, and potential staging for future river crossings or localized offensives.
