𧡠Frontline Sentinel β Northern Sumy Oblast 16/09/2025
πΊπ¦ Ukrainian Advances: The Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) have continued to expand their offensive operations in the northern Sumy oblast beyond the settlement of Kindrativka. Ukrainian forces were able to capture at least 2km north of Kindrativka, advancing in the direction of Kostyantynivka as well as reaching the international border of Russia and Ukraine.
πMapped Territorial Changes: both neutral mapping project Suriyak Maps and Ukrainian Deepstate confirmed the territorial changes and Ukrainian advance in the direction of the international border.
πOpen-Source Information: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Sunday that Ukrainian forces had advanced deeper within the border districts of the northern Sumy region citing Oleksandr Syrskyi. "Our units are continuing to advance in the direction of Ukraine's state border."
Another source from analysis group Deep State stated that Ukrainian troops have ejected Russian forces from the area around the villages of Kostiantynivka and Novokostiantynivka.
π―Strategic Value: Ukrainian forces now control part of the international Ukrainian/Russian border securing the area for the first time since the withdrawal from the Kursk region of Russian in March of 2025. The new Ukrainian advance will allow for Ukraine to add more pressure on the Russian occupied settlements in the Northern Sumy region mainly Kostiantynivka, which Russian forces are currently struggling to maintain control over due to increased Ukrainian attacks.

𧡠Frontline Sentinel β Oleksandro-Shultyne, Donetsk Oblast 18/09/2025
π·πΊ Russian Advances: Russian forces have concentrated main efforts on closing two pockets. Attempts continue to consolidate on the eastern border of the Kleban-Byk reservoir to strangle the grouping to the south; the UAF is saturating the northern part of the reservoir with support detachments to reinforce the front line. The second pocket is being encircled along two vectors: Dyliivka β Oleksandro-Shultyne and Stupochky β Predtechne. In this pocket, advancement occurred from the Andriivka side, whereby RF Armed Forces captured all the last territories lost after the UAF counteroffensive in May 2023.
π Mapped Territorial Changes: Currently, no consolidation by either side is observed. Worth noting is the expansion of the gray zone, which is a consequence of increased activity in sectors around Katerynivka and Oleksandro-Shultyne.
π Open-Source Information:
π·πΊ Russian sources: In late August, the RF Ministry of Defense reported capturing strongpoints in several settlements southeast of the city β Oleksandro-Shultyne and Katerynivka were captured.
πΊπ¦ Ukrainian sources: Ukrainian military command describes the situation near Kostiantynivka as complex but controlled. The city's defense is held by units of the 93rd Separate Mechanized Brigade "Kholodny Yar," one of the UAF's most experienced brigades. According to this brigade's chief sergeant, the enemy "likely learned from Bakhmut's mistakes" and now acts more cautiously, however Ukrainian defenders have strengthened positions around Kostiantynivka and are prepared for prolonged defense. Ground Forces Commander Oleksandr Syrsky previously noted that in August, the UAF lost approximately 5 kmΒ² of positions on the Pokrovsk-Kostiantynivka direction, but managed to regain control of 26 kmΒ² during local counterattacks.
π― Strategic Value: Currently, RF Armed Forces are focused on closing the pockets formed south of Kostiantynivka. The crisis currently observed in the sector where the Dobropillia breakthrough occurred forced concentration of forces there, which reduced the intensity of pressure on the sector north of Chasiv Yar. At the same time, UAF withdrawing brigades to stabilize the Dobropillia breakthrough significantly complicated defense south of the Kleban-Byk reservoir.

𧡠Frontline Sentinel β Lyptsi, Kharkiv Oblast 22/09/2025
π·πΊ Russian advances: Russian forces have carried out new offensive operations in the Lyptsi direction towards Ukrainian positions located within the town, Russian forces reportedly advanced from the Russian occupied settlement of Hlyboke into Lyptsiβs northern dacha regions positioned near the Kharkiv River. Russia has utilized heavy MLRS (Multi Launch Rocket Systems) and KAB glide bomb attacks against Lyptsi and its surrounding settlements for the last six weeks to soften Ukrainian positions for the preparation of new assaults.
πMapped Territorial Changes: Only the Pro Ukrainian Deepstate map already had these positions mapped as being within the grey zone, no new updated territorial changes have yet been uploaded by Deepstate or any other source, likely due to lack of geolocated footage from within the region.
πOpen-Source Information: The Dnipro Operational Strategic Group of Ukrainian forces reported that Russian forces had resumed offensive actions in the northern surroundings of the town of Lyptsi towards the Kharkiv Riverbank. In addition, the Dnipro Operational Strategic Group also wrote that Russian forces attempted offensive actions within the Vovchansβk region but were βUnsuccessfulβ.
Local Ukrainian monitoring channel βMonitor 1654 Kharkivβ reported throughout the September period of 2025 about increases of MLRS (Multi Launch Rocket Systems) and KAB glide bomb attacks against the town of Lyptsi and surrounding settlements confirming increased Russian attacks and interests in this section of the frontline.
π―Strategic Value: Russian forces are once again adding pressure to the Northern Kharkiv frontline attempting to advance and gain positions along the Kharkiv River to assist with assaults deeper into the Ukrainian controlled town of Lyptsi, Kharkiv Oblast. Russian forces gaining positions within the northern sectors of Lyptsi means they can more easily hold down positions and increase assaults deeper into the town utilizing basements and destroyed buildings. Russian forces gaining more control over Lyptsi adds more risk to the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv and increases the fear of the city being drawn closer into the scope of the frontline, which is situated at this time just 18km away.

𧡠Frontline Sentinel β Velykomykhailivka, Dnipropetrovsk Oblast 25/09/2025
π·πΊ Russian Advances
Russian forces in the Velykomykhailivka sector continued their offensive around Sosnivka village. By September 20, RF Ministry of Defense claims that units of the "Vostok" group took control of Berezove and Ternove villages, and on September 22. In total, on this bridgehead, the Russian side claims to have "liberated" nine settlements in Dnipropetrovsk region. The attacks were supported by massive aviation strikes: on September 22 alone, the enemy conducted 45 airstrikes and dropped 98 guided aerial bombs on Ukrainian troop positions. The attackers' tactics include using small assault groups and sabotage-reconnaissance detachments that covertly penetrate the rear. Specifically, attempts by Russian SRGs to break through forest belts toward the industrial zone of Berezove village were noted, creating a threat to Ukrainian positions near Sosnivka.
π Mapped Territorial Changes
On maps from the independent DeepState project, RF Armed Forces advancement is observed. The villages of Novomykolaivka and Novoivanivka (Zaporizhzhia region) have been captured. Also advancement around Kalynivske, Berezove, and Ternove. Significant expansion of the gray zone is observed. The area of captured territory over the past week is estimated at 28.4 sq km.
π Open Sources
Russian official sources and military correspondents extensively cover this operation as one of the few RF offensive initiatives in autumn. On September 11, the RF Ministry of Defense announced the "liberation" of Sosnivka by "Vostok" grouping forces. On September 20, the department published footage of the Berezove assault, and on the 22nd officially confirmed the capture of Kalynivske β a village called "the seventh liberated settlement in Dnipropetrovsk region."
πΊπ¦ Ukrainian Sources
Ukrainian command acknowledges an extremely tense situation at the junction of Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Dnipropetrovsk regions. According to AFU General Staff data, the enemy sharply increased activity on the Novopavlivka direction: if about 20 assault actions were recorded the day before, on September 22-23 their number increased to 31-33 per day. The enemy is attempting to break through simultaneously at several points, literally "piling on" with forces from several brigades. The General Staff morning report of September 23 indicated that over the past 24 hours, Ukrainian units repelled 31 attacks in the areas of settlements Filiia, Sichneve, Shevchenko, Sosnivka, Novoivanovka, Ternove, Mirne, Berezove, Novohrihorivka, and Novomykolaivka, while fighting continued in three other sectors. A day earlier, on the 22nd, the General Staff noted the fiercest battles near Pokrovsk and on the Novopavlivka front, where the enemy conducted 44 and 33 assault sorties respectively over 24 hours.
Ukrainian military experts acknowledge that the enemy is trying to exploit he vulnerability of the front junction. AFU fighter with callsign "Muchnoi" noted tree directions of RF Armed Forces strikes in this sector: Ivanivka (bypassing Novopavlivka from the south), Novomykhailivka (frontal pressure on Velykomykhailivka using artillery and aviation), and Berezove (breakthrough through forest belts, creating a threat to the defense flank near Sosnivka).
π― Strategic Significance
Advancement in this sector is a consequence of the thinning of AFU defensive lines. In early summer, Russian forces managed to create a crack in the front in the Bahatyr area, which pulled other front sectors along with it, and the situation there still cannot be called fully stable. Now a similar situation is occurring in the Sosnivka area. If this sector is not stabilized, it could further stretch the already thin AFU forces on the front, which could lead to a breakthrough like the one observed in the Dobropillia sector.

𧡠Frontline Sentinel β Stepnohirsk, Zaporizhzhia Oblast 29/09/2025
π·πΊ Russian Advances: As of the 29th of September 2025, Russian forces have expanded their offensive operations against the town of Stepnohirsk, Zaporizhzhia Oblast, expanding positions along the E105 Highway ring road situated in the western section of the town as well as capturing the third micro district taking control of "Stepnohirska Dytiacha Muzychna Shkola" school and a series of high rise apartment buildings that allow for fire control over the northern region of the town.
π Mapped territorial changes: Neutral mapping project βSuriyak mapβ confirmed the Russian advances along the E105 highway and inside the 3rd micro district of Stepnohirsk expanding numerous new positions within the town. Ukrainian mapping project βDeep state mapβ has expanded the grey zone along the E105 highway but has still not acknowledged any Russian advance within the 3rd Micro district of Stepnohirsk.
π Open Sources: Ukrainian National News (UNN) reported that Russian forces are launching constant attacks inside the town of Stepnohirsk despite a high number of losses. The UNN stated that Russian forces are launching large infantry attacks via the village of Plavni and Kamianske despite significant losses, Russian troops are trying to use their numerical superiority in infantry to overthrow Ukrainian defenses in the region along the E105 highway and on forward defensive positions within the town of Stepnohirsk itself.
π― Strategic Significance: Russian forces continue to advance within Stepnohirsk, driving their offensive toward Zaporizhzhia City while simultaneously expanding their left flank around the city of Orikhiv, Zaporizhzhia Oblast. Recent gains include the capture of the 3rd micro district, a key urban sector containing high-rise apartment complexes that provide commanding observation and fire control over approximately 60% of the town. Control of these elevated positions is enabling enhanced artillery targeting and direct fire support, significantly strengthening Russian assault operations in the area.
