𧡠Frontline Sentinel β Dobropillia, Donetsk Oblast, 11/09/2025
πΊπ¦ Ukrainian Counterattack
Since the beginning of this month, the situation in the Dobropillya sector remains active. A rapid decision by the UAF General Staff to deploy the 1st National Guard Corps "Azov," the 82nd Separate Air Assault Brigade "Bukovyna," and the 4th Operational Brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine "Rubezh" stabilized the front. After stabilization, the UAF began counterattacking using heavy equipment and infiltrating behind front lines using RF Armed Forces uniforms. After the initial breakthrough, Russian forces took an operational pause for regrouping. Due to the UAF's rapid response, RF command was forced to redeploy reserves to Donbas: the 70th Motor Rifle Division, units of the 336th, 40th, 61st Marine brigades and 177th Marine Regiment, as well as the 11th and 76th Airborne brigades.
π Mapped Territorial Changes
In early September, fighting continued for Kucheriv Yar and Nove Shakhove, where pockets of enemy resistance persisted. The UAF managed to "cut off" more than half the territory of the initial breakthrough, surrounding several groups of Russian soldiers hiding in forest plantations, but Russian forces are managing to leak through this encirclement. On September 7, the UAF was able to advance in the bottleneck sector of the Razine-Novotorets'ke breakthrough. At the same time, RF Armed Forces advanced north from Poltavka. Due to active fighting, the wide gray zone makes it impossible to assess either side's advancement in square kilometers.
π Open Sources
Russian official channels and military correspondents provided contradictory coverage of the situation near Dobropillya. The RF Ministry of Defense reported "tactical successes" β particularly claiming the capture of Fedorivka village northeast of Pokrovsk and other settlements on the approaches to Dobropillya. Russian Telegram channels reported that the 10 km section between Fedorivka and Kucheriv Yar is under RF control, with about 150 Russian fighters holding Kucheriv Yar, repelling 20 Ukrainian counterattacks over four days. Even pro-Russian bloggers acknowledged fierce Ukrainian resistance: it was indicated that UAF command concentrated up to 10 brigades and regiments in the Dobropillya area, including special forces and paratroopers, totaling up to 2,000 bayonets, which sharply increased pressure on the defense of Russian "claws" near Pokrovsk. Several military correspondents noted a "fluid" and unstable situation: the Rybar channel wrote about partial loss of initiative β supposedly, after a swift forward rush, RF forces are forced to repel counterattacks and get bogged down in positional battles on the new line. Russian milbloggers, besides reporting successes, also noted new threats to their forces: some complained about strikes on communications.
πΊπ¦ Ukrainian Sources
Ukrainian military command acknowledges that the situation in the Dobropillya area remains complex and dynamic, but emphasizes successful containment of the enemy. In daily UAF General Staff reports, repelling numerous attacks on the Pokrovsk sector was invariably noted β up to 25-30 enemy breakthrough attempts daily in the areas of Shakhove, Nykanorivka, Rodyns'ke, and Novoekonomichne. "Rubezh" brigade fighters confirmed that all Russian groups that broke through to the rear are blocked and gradually being destroyed or surrendering. "The RF attack on Dobropillya failed, the situation is stabilized," National Guard "Azov" summarized on September 9. In early September, after pulling up reserves, the "Dnipro" press service reported situation stabilization. It was reported that National Guard "Azov" units took up defense on the most threatened direction along the Dobropillya-Kramatorsk highway, while fresh AFU units took second-echelon positions. The Hostri Kartuzy channel reported that Ukrainian sabotage and reconnaissance groups operated in the rear of Russian positions near Rodynske and Myrnohrad, undermining the attackers' supply.

π― Strategic Significance
For Russia, capturing this bridgehead would open the possibility of bypassing Kostiantynivka from the west, potentially cutting off one of the Ukrainian forces' supply lines in Donbas, while advancement toward Rodynske directly threatens UAF groupings in Pokrovsk.
Strategically, events near Dobropillya showed that the UAF managed to quickly eliminate the threat of an operational breakthrough, but at the cost of diverting significant forces to defense from other sectors. This experience could be utilized by RF Armed Forces in the future, focusing on creating several similar breakthroughs to exploit the UAF's limited force resources.

𧡠Frontline Sentinel β Northern Sumy Oblast 16/09/2025
πΊπ¦ Ukrainian Advances: The Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) have continued to expand their offensive operations in the northern Sumy oblast beyond the settlement of Kindrativka. Ukrainian forces were able to capture at least 2km north of Kindrativka, advancing in the direction of Kostyantynivka as well as reaching the international border of Russia and Ukraine.
πMapped Territorial Changes: both neutral mapping project Suriyak Maps and Ukrainian Deepstate confirmed the territorial changes and Ukrainian advance in the direction of the international border.
πOpen-Source Information: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Sunday that Ukrainian forces had advanced deeper within the border districts of the northern Sumy region citing Oleksandr Syrskyi. "Our units are continuing to advance in the direction of Ukraine's state border."
Another source from analysis group Deep State stated that Ukrainian troops have ejected Russian forces from the area around the villages of Kostiantynivka and Novokostiantynivka.
π―Strategic Value: Ukrainian forces now control part of the international Ukrainian/Russian border securing the area for the first time since the withdrawal from the Kursk region of Russian in March of 2025. The new Ukrainian advance will allow for Ukraine to add more pressure on the Russian occupied settlements in the Northern Sumy region mainly Kostiantynivka, which Russian forces are currently struggling to maintain control over due to increased Ukrainian attacks.

𧡠Frontline Sentinel β Oleksandro-Shultyne, Donetsk Oblast 18/09/2025
π·πΊ Russian Advances: Russian forces have concentrated main efforts on closing two pockets. Attempts continue to consolidate on the eastern border of the Kleban-Byk reservoir to strangle the grouping to the south; the UAF is saturating the northern part of the reservoir with support detachments to reinforce the front line. The second pocket is being encircled along two vectors: Dyliivka β Oleksandro-Shultyne and Stupochky β Predtechne. In this pocket, advancement occurred from the Andriivka side, whereby RF Armed Forces captured all the last territories lost after the UAF counteroffensive in May 2023.
π Mapped Territorial Changes: Currently, no consolidation by either side is observed. Worth noting is the expansion of the gray zone, which is a consequence of increased activity in sectors around Katerynivka and Oleksandro-Shultyne.
π Open-Source Information:
π·πΊ Russian sources: In late August, the RF Ministry of Defense reported capturing strongpoints in several settlements southeast of the city β Oleksandro-Shultyne and Katerynivka were captured.
πΊπ¦ Ukrainian sources: Ukrainian military command describes the situation near Kostiantynivka as complex but controlled. The city's defense is held by units of the 93rd Separate Mechanized Brigade "Kholodny Yar," one of the UAF's most experienced brigades. According to this brigade's chief sergeant, the enemy "likely learned from Bakhmut's mistakes" and now acts more cautiously, however Ukrainian defenders have strengthened positions around Kostiantynivka and are prepared for prolonged defense. Ground Forces Commander Oleksandr Syrsky previously noted that in August, the UAF lost approximately 5 kmΒ² of positions on the Pokrovsk-Kostiantynivka direction, but managed to regain control of 26 kmΒ² during local counterattacks.
π― Strategic Value: Currently, RF Armed Forces are focused on closing the pockets formed south of Kostiantynivka. The crisis currently observed in the sector where the Dobropillia breakthrough occurred forced concentration of forces there, which reduced the intensity of pressure on the sector north of Chasiv Yar. At the same time, UAF withdrawing brigades to stabilize the Dobropillia breakthrough significantly complicated defense south of the Kleban-Byk reservoir.

𧡠Frontline Sentinel β Lyptsi, Kharkiv Oblast 22/09/2025
π·πΊ Russian advances: Russian forces have carried out new offensive operations in the Lyptsi direction towards Ukrainian positions located within the town, Russian forces reportedly advanced from the Russian occupied settlement of Hlyboke into Lyptsiβs northern dacha regions positioned near the Kharkiv River. Russia has utilized heavy MLRS (Multi Launch Rocket Systems) and KAB glide bomb attacks against Lyptsi and its surrounding settlements for the last six weeks to soften Ukrainian positions for the preparation of new assaults.
πMapped Territorial Changes: Only the Pro Ukrainian Deepstate map already had these positions mapped as being within the grey zone, no new updated territorial changes have yet been uploaded by Deepstate or any other source, likely due to lack of geolocated footage from within the region.
πOpen-Source Information: The Dnipro Operational Strategic Group of Ukrainian forces reported that Russian forces had resumed offensive actions in the northern surroundings of the town of Lyptsi towards the Kharkiv Riverbank. In addition, the Dnipro Operational Strategic Group also wrote that Russian forces attempted offensive actions within the Vovchansβk region but were βUnsuccessfulβ.
Local Ukrainian monitoring channel βMonitor 1654 Kharkivβ reported throughout the September period of 2025 about increases of MLRS (Multi Launch Rocket Systems) and KAB glide bomb attacks against the town of Lyptsi and surrounding settlements confirming increased Russian attacks and interests in this section of the frontline.
π―Strategic Value: Russian forces are once again adding pressure to the Northern Kharkiv frontline attempting to advance and gain positions along the Kharkiv River to assist with assaults deeper into the Ukrainian controlled town of Lyptsi, Kharkiv Oblast. Russian forces gaining positions within the northern sectors of Lyptsi means they can more easily hold down positions and increase assaults deeper into the town utilizing basements and destroyed buildings. Russian forces gaining more control over Lyptsi adds more risk to the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv and increases the fear of the city being drawn closer into the scope of the frontline, which is situated at this time just 18km away.
