🧡 Frontline Sentinel – Plavni, Zaporizhzhia Oblast, 01/09/2025

πŸ‡·πŸ‡Ί Russian Advances: Russian forces have captured the village of Plavni, situated In the Zaporizhzhia Oblast regaining control of an area 2kmΒ² in size. Russian forces launched continued offensive actions against the northern district of Plavni, eventually taking control over the railway network situated along the northern village limits and establishing forward positions within the proximity of the E-105 Highway.

πŸ“ Mapped Territorial Changes: Pro Ukrainian mapping project Deepstate map has confirmed that Russian forces have captured at least 70% of the village of Plavni the remaining 30% is reported to be within the grey zone. Neutral mapping project Suriyak maps has reported the full locality of Plavni to be fully under Russian control as well as reported that Russian forces have advanced further north towards western districts of Stepnohirsk.

πŸ“š Open Sources:
Russian Media and Telegram Channels:
Russian media β€œΠ’ΠΎΠ΅Π½Π½ΠΎΠ΅ дСло” stated on the 28th of August 2025 that Russian airborne units had successfully captured the village of Plavni and had continued assaults into the southern districts of Stepnohirsk. Pro-Russian mapping groups also β€œconfirmed” the changes in territory within the Plavni and Stepnohirsk direction.

πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦ Ukrainian Sources: Head of the Ukrainian Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, Ivan Fedorov said that Russia had significantly increased attacks across multiple settlements of the Zaporizhzhia Oblast including Plavni where the situation was described as β€œdifficult”. Fedorov stated that Russian forces were constantly using large quantities of Multi Launch Rocket System (MLRS) against Ukrainian fortified positions within the village, sometimes up to four times per day.

🎯 Strategic Significance: The Russian capture of Plavni marks a strategically significant development along the Zaporizhzhia front, as control over the village secures access to the northern railway network and strengthens positions near the vital E-105 Highway. With reports of Russian soldiers pushing into the southern districts of Stepnohirsk, Moscow’s forces are attempting to widen their bridgehead and pressure on Ukrainian defenses deeper into Zaporizhzhia Oblast. This advance places Russian troops within roughly 22 kilometers of Zaporizhzhia city itself, raising concerns over increased threats to the regional hub and highlighting the growing intensity of fighting in this sector. The new advance also strengthens Russia’s left flank around the Ukrainian defended town of Orikhiv, adding more pressure to Ukrainian defenders from the west matched with increased pressure from the eastern direction of the Donetsk Oblast and Dnipropetrovsk Oblast

🧡 Frontline Sentinel – Komyshuvakha, Donetsk Oblast, 04/08/2025

πŸ‡·πŸ‡Ί Russian Advances
Over the past two weeks, units of the Russian "Vostok" grouping have notably intensified activity in the Komyshuvakha sector. After capturing strongpoints south of Maliivka village and west of Shevchenko village, Russian forces initiated assault operations directly toward Komyshuvakha. Operating with small assault groups supported by massive artillery fire and strike UAVs, they gradually breached the UAF's first line of defense, thus forming the Maliivka-Shevchenko-Komyshuvakha pocket. Currently, this pocket is closed and Komyshuvakha is under Russian control, with an observed offensive vector toward Maliivka-Sosnivka.

πŸ“ Mapped Territorial Changes
The capture of Komyshuvakha was accompanied by expansion of the occupation zone around it: according to DeepState assessment, the area of RF-controlled territory in the Komyshuvakha and Maliivka region increased, while the "gray zone" of indeterminate control was reduced by 9.8 kmΒ². This indicates that besides Komyshuvakha itself, the Russians occupied several positions between this village and Maliivka along the UAF's main defensive line. The total area of captured territory for the period from August 27 to September 3 is estimated at 30 kmΒ².

πŸ“š Open Sources
Russian and independent open sources extensively covered events in the Komyshuvakha area. The RF Ministry of Defense officially announced on August 30 that "units of the 'Vostok' troop grouping liberated the settlement of Kamyshevakha, DPR, as a result of offensive operations." The Defense Ministry press service also reported striking UAF units with fire in adjacent areas of Dnipropetrovsk region (particularly in the Malomykhailivka, Vorone, and Sosnivka areas) during the offensive development. Russian military correspondents reported that after establishing control over Komyshuvakha, the front in this sector was straightened, and RF forces continued advancing further west from the village. Telegram channels associated with military correspondents indicated the assault's complexity: according to their data, volunteer units were engaged in battles for Komyshuvakha and tactics of bypassing UAF strongpoints in forest belts were employed.

πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦ Ukrainian Sources
The UAF General Staff daily mentioned this sector as one of the most intense in their morning reports. The morning report of August 28 indicated that on the Novopavlivka direction, the enemy conducted 21 assault attacks in areas of settlements near the administrative border of regions – including near Zaporizhzhia, Voskresenka, Piddubne, Temirivka, and directly near Komyshuvakha. According to the General Staff, all these attacks were repelled by defense forces. Ukrainian representatives emphasized that all enemy attacks are accompanied by heavy losses for the attackers. Ukrainian officials spoke evasively about Komyshuvakha specifically during the week. However, Ukrainian command emphasizes that fighting in this direction continues.

🎯 Strategic Significance
From a military standpoint, however, the settlements that came under RF control (Komyshuvakha, Zaporizhzhia, Maliivka, etc.) represent small rural settlements surrounded by fields and forest belts. Their capture only marginally improves the Russian side's operational position. Its main value for the RF is symbolic and tactical (straightening the front line and eliminating a salient in UAF defenses).

🧡 Frontline Sentinel – Dobropillia, Donetsk Oblast, 11/09/2025

πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦ Ukrainian Counterattack
Since the beginning of this month, the situation in the Dobropillya sector remains active. A rapid decision by the UAF General Staff to deploy the 1st National Guard Corps "Azov," the 82nd Separate Air Assault Brigade "Bukovyna," and the 4th Operational Brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine "Rubezh" stabilized the front. After stabilization, the UAF began counterattacking using heavy equipment and infiltrating behind front lines using RF Armed Forces uniforms. After the initial breakthrough, Russian forces took an operational pause for regrouping. Due to the UAF's rapid response, RF command was forced to redeploy reserves to Donbas: the 70th Motor Rifle Division, units of the 336th, 40th, 61st Marine brigades and 177th Marine Regiment, as well as the 11th and 76th Airborne brigades.

πŸ“ Mapped Territorial Changes
In early September, fighting continued for Kucheriv Yar and Nove Shakhove, where pockets of enemy resistance persisted. The UAF managed to "cut off" more than half the territory of the initial breakthrough, surrounding several groups of Russian soldiers hiding in forest plantations, but Russian forces are managing to leak through this encirclement. On September 7, the UAF was able to advance in the bottleneck sector of the Razine-Novotorets'ke breakthrough. At the same time, RF Armed Forces advanced north from Poltavka. Due to active fighting, the wide gray zone makes it impossible to assess either side's advancement in square kilometers.

πŸ“š Open Sources
Russian official channels and military correspondents provided contradictory coverage of the situation near Dobropillya. The RF Ministry of Defense reported "tactical successes" – particularly claiming the capture of Fedorivka village northeast of Pokrovsk and other settlements on the approaches to Dobropillya. Russian Telegram channels reported that the 10 km section between Fedorivka and Kucheriv Yar is under RF control, with about 150 Russian fighters holding Kucheriv Yar, repelling 20 Ukrainian counterattacks over four days. Even pro-Russian bloggers acknowledged fierce Ukrainian resistance: it was indicated that UAF command concentrated up to 10 brigades and regiments in the Dobropillya area, including special forces and paratroopers, totaling up to 2,000 bayonets, which sharply increased pressure on the defense of Russian "claws" near Pokrovsk. Several military correspondents noted a "fluid" and unstable situation: the Rybar channel wrote about partial loss of initiative – supposedly, after a swift forward rush, RF forces are forced to repel counterattacks and get bogged down in positional battles on the new line. Russian milbloggers, besides reporting successes, also noted new threats to their forces: some complained about strikes on communications.

πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦ Ukrainian Sources
Ukrainian military command acknowledges that the situation in the Dobropillya area remains complex and dynamic, but emphasizes successful containment of the enemy. In daily UAF General Staff reports, repelling numerous attacks on the Pokrovsk sector was invariably noted – up to 25-30 enemy breakthrough attempts daily in the areas of Shakhove, Nykanorivka, Rodyns'ke, and Novoekonomichne. "Rubezh" brigade fighters confirmed that all Russian groups that broke through to the rear are blocked and gradually being destroyed or surrendering. "The RF attack on Dobropillya failed, the situation is stabilized," National Guard "Azov" summarized on September 9. In early September, after pulling up reserves, the "Dnipro" press service reported situation stabilization. It was reported that National Guard "Azov" units took up defense on the most threatened direction along the Dobropillya-Kramatorsk highway, while fresh AFU units took second-echelon positions. The Hostri Kartuzy channel reported that Ukrainian sabotage and reconnaissance groups operated in the rear of Russian positions near Rodynske and Myrnohrad, undermining the attackers' supply.
🎯 Strategic Significance
For Russia, capturing this bridgehead would open the possibility of bypassing Kostiantynivka from the west, potentially cutting off one of the Ukrainian forces' supply lines in Donbas, while advancement toward Rodynske directly threatens UAF groupings in Pokrovsk.
Strategically, events near Dobropillya showed that the UAF managed to quickly eliminate the threat of an operational breakthrough, but at the cost of diverting significant forces to defense from other sectors. This experience could be utilized by RF Armed Forces in the future, focusing on creating several similar breakthroughs to exploit the UAF's limited force resources.
