Arbeiderpartiet stod i veien for opprusting av forsvaret.
Norge og Tyskland var handelspartnere frem til krigen begynte i 1940.
Tyskland hentet svensk jernmalm (for å bygge opp militæret) via Narvik.
1. sept 1939 - Norge erklærer seg nøytralt (men fortsetter å levere jern til tyskerne).
15. feb 1940 - Britene border det tyske skipet Altmark innenfor norsk område.
8. april 1940 - England legger miner på norsk område (Operation Wilfred og Plan R 4) og håper på motreaksjon fra tyskerne slik at England kan "forsvare" Norge ved å okkupere landet.
Ap gir seg selv flere år i regjering uten folkeavstemning (statskupp).
