A Palestinian commentator online sharply criticized the hypocrisy of HTS led Syrian leadership, contrasting their alleged religious zeal with their political actions.
He pointed to Assad al-Shibani, Syria’s foreign minister, who was in New York meeting with Abraham Cooper, a known advocate for Gaza’s destruction and a key figure behind the Abraham Accords that normalized ties between Arab states and Israel. The meeting, held with smiles and handshakes, took place on April 28, 2025, despite ongoing massacres in Gaza and Israeli occupation of Syrian land.
The commentator highlighted the irony: the same Syrian officials behind massacres in the coastal regions and now in Druze areas, are also cozying up to pro-Israel figures in the West.

"Someone came today threatening my mother that all our properties and homes have been confiscated and they will return tomorrow to take them by force. They filmed the entire house, top to bottom, to ensure we don’t remove anything. He turned around and left after hearing my mother confirm what he wanted. My mother is alone, and we’re far away. We will not let anyone take our home, no matter the reason or excuse."
