5️⃣Things Every New Freelancer Must Do Before Applying on Upwork 🚩
Most beginners create an account and start sending proposals right away. Then they wonder why nobody replies. The truth is that clients check your profile before they read your proposal. Get these five things ready first:
1️⃣. A complete, professional profile
Upwork shows complete profiles more often, and clients trust them more. That means:
- A clear, friendly photo (face visible, good lighting, no selfies)
- A specific title like “Flutter Developer | Mobile Apps for Startups,” not just “Developer”
- An overview that opens with how you help clients, not your life story
- Skills, education, and languages filled in
Aim for 100% profile completion before your first proposal.

at the end of the day, Adunya faniya. You will leave it one day for the next person. Your religion, family, and health come first.
especially when it comes to religion, most of us start to flee from the masjid as we get busy with work. “It’s just this project, and I will get back to the masjid.” It starts like this, and then, project after project, we stop going to dars, then stop attending jammah salats, and eventually, we start missing salats.
we should really think about it before we sink too deep into it.
may Allah help me and everyone else remain steadfast in our religion. Ameen.

On a serious note, though.
Speaking realistically, in this day and age, getting married without some degree of financial stability can be very difficult, and it can seriously affect the marriage itself. I've seen people struggle and suffer because of this, so please don't take it lightly.
This is part of why the Prophet ﷺ said:
«يا معشر الشباب، من استطاع منكم الباءة فليتزوج»
That being said, I don't think financial stability is the main thing preventing most people from getting married. I think it's often a lack of maturity and psychological readiness for the responsibilities that come with it.
For a man, marriage means that, before Allah, you'll be accountable not only for yourself but also for how you fulfilled your wife's rights and, potentially, your children's rights. If you're not ready to take those responsibilities seriously, reflect on them, and prepare yourself to fulfill them, perhaps you need more time before getting married.
Now, regarding finances, I think there's a lot of exaggeration, especially in the tech community. Many of us earn more than 95% of Ethiopians, yet we still convince ourselves that we can't afford to get married. At some point, we need to ask ourselves whether we're being genuinely responsible or simply allowing our fear of the dunya to dictate our decisions.
Allah says:
"Marry off the singles among you... If they are poor, Allah will enrich them from His bounty."
I'm not saying you should be financially reckless or ignore your obligations. I'm saying that there's a difference between being financially responsible and being so afraid of poverty that you never take the step. We need to have tawakkul in Allah while making a genuine effort.
There's also a Hadith (or an athar, not sure) encouraging people to seek provision through marriage. And we know that no soul will die before receiving its provision.
So, my point is simple: if you genuinely believe you're ready for marriage, don't wait until you become a millionaire. Make reasonable preparations, do your part, put your trust in Allah, and take the step when you can fulfill the responsibilities involved.
Who knows? Perhaps the person you marry will be part of the reason Allah opens doors of provision you never imagined.
