Remember when I was anxious about the high-tech in China video not performing well? We put in so much time and energy, but the initial results were pretty average.

Update three weeks after uploading: it started growing nicely about two weeks in and is now sitting at 240,000 views. After numerous thumbnail and title changes, YouTube finally found the right audience for it.

The best part is the growth is now very stable, around 10K views per day with little fluctuation, which usually signals a long-term performer. The two biggest factors (aside from the much improved CTR from all that thumbnail testing) are the topic, which has been trending on YouTube recently, and the phenomenal retention, up to three times higher than our usual videos, with a whopping 76% after the first 30 seconds.

So fingers crossed this one will have a long tail and eventually hit millions of views. Our ultimate goal was to make a video that could reach 10M views. Our current record is 2M, though that one was India-focused, which tends to be easier.

Another good sign: YouTube is pushing it to a wide audience. As you can see in the screenshot, nearly 40% of recent viewers are from the US (the most valuable market on YouTube), while the Philippines and India are also in the top four. That mix shows the video isn’t geo centric but topic centric, it appeals broadly.

Lastly, the current RPM (revenue per 1,000 views) over the past week is a massive USD 8.31, our highest ever. That’s thanks to the topic (high-tech) and strong US viewership. So far, the video has earned USD 1,306.36, and theoretically (haha) could bring in USD 83,100 if it ever hits 10M views.

Sorry for all the numbers, we’re just quite nerdy and passionate about the YouTube game. I actually explain how the algorithm works in my free 3-day online workshop (you can book your spot here). Along with that, I cover how to pick a profitable niche and the blueprint to start and grow a channel.

As for this video, I’ll keep you posted on how it goes. If the numbers stay steady for the next 2-3 months, we’ll probably try to replicate the success with a similar project. It’ll take tons of time and effort again, but it’s worth it when you see big results from your work, right?!

Our second-longest video on our channel is out! It was also one of the most inspirational ones for me personally. And my guest is exactly how I see my retirement years (at least professionally). A fascinating story of Mike Rowse, the first foreign Hong Kong government official to become a citizen of China. He has been in Hong Kong since 1972, and went from journalism to fighting corruption at the government level and later even helped bring the first Disneyland in Asia to Hong Kong. My first Hyrox is done! The event was yesterday at Singapore Expo.

Very interesting experience. My quick notes:

1. In a team everything feels easier and way more fun
2. When you’re surrounded by fit people you naturally push yourself to be healthier
3. Having a fixed event and committing as a team makes training non-negotiable

Your social circle and environment shape who you become.

I’m putting together a small group for a 2-3 day retreat in Phuket focused on communication, social confidence, leadership skills, personal branding, and building real connections.

There will also be a private meetup with a billionaire I interviewed before.

The retreat will be around February or March. If you want to join, fill in the short form https://forms.gle/gvY1cQwRCeYk82Vb6

P.S. The group is small so spots will go fast once I announce the dates.

I’ve met so many interesting people throughout my YouTube journey. Billionaires, celebrities, politicians. Some became friends, others even became clients. And what’s funny is that I started all of this in Singapore completely from scratch. I didn’t know anyone, my English wasn’t great, and I definitely didn’t have a fancy MBA degree.

But step by step I managed to reach out to people, get them interested, and build real connections just by talking with them.

I really believe that the people around you shape your life more than anything.

So here’s what I want to do. I’m putting together a small group and taking everyone to Phuket for a super productive and fun weekend, probably around February or March next year.

You’ll expand your network, we’ll work on your social confidence, conversation skills, and personal brand, and you’ll make friends with great people. And yes, I’ll even arrange a couple of hours with a billionaire I interviewed before.

I’m sure this little getaway can seriously boost your life, business, and career. And of course, we’ll have a lot of fun too.

Flying to Phuket (again haha) to interview a billionaire (AGAIN!) and most importantly to prepare our networking retreat happening around Feb-Mar next year.

For a long time, I’ve had an idea to gather a small group of interesting people in one place to boost each other’s networking skills, personal brands, and expand each other’s networks.

I used to run similar events in Russia and Europe, but that was a long time ago. It was a super exciting project. I made quite a few friends, and many business collaborations came out of it.

The idea is not to make it a typical boring and awkward networking event with business cards and formalities. I hate that. Instead, I want to create the right vibe and ecosystem for carefully selected people to open up, grow together, and have fun.

So the first event in Asia will be a short getaway in Phuket. I’m also bringing a communication trainer who will facilitate the activities and make it feel more like a game rather than a typical retreat. On top of that, a billionaire I interviewed before will spend a couple of hours with the group.

If you want to come with me to this first networking retreat to boost your communication skills, expand your network, and make new friends, fill in the early-bird waiting list here: https://forms.gle/fs7u4EG1DJRHS2kx6

Back in Singapore. Every time I come back, I feel like I’m home.

I flew back a few days ago from Phuket, where I filmed an interview with yet another billionaire.

I don’t usually get nervous before interviews, but this was one of those rare cases. He is not an easy person to get. It took time to agree on the interview, the meeting location changed twice, and in the end I was supposed to meet him at his house in Phuket.

Thirty minutes before the meeting, my cameraman calls me and says, “Max, I have an emergency,” and the call drops. I’m not joking, just like that haha. At the same time, I see a WhatsApp message from my billionaire guest saying he needs to leave earlier than we planned.

Damn.

Not the best situation.

I’m not panicking, but I can feel that one of my most epic interviews might not happen. On top of that, at this very moment I’m driving the winding roads of Phuket haha.

Turns out the cameraman couldn’t pick up the cameras from a storage place where he left them. Luckily, I always carry a backup camera and a couple of mics. So I drive to my guest and start filming myself while the cameraman sorts things out on his side.

In the end, everything works out. We start by filming a tour of his huge house in a vlogging style. The cameraman arrives during that, sets everything up quickly, and we continue with a proper sit-down interview.

I leave the house happy with the result.

The takeaway is simple. You need to be ready for anything and have strong enough communication skills to sort things out with everyone involved.

These skills are built over time, and that’s exactly what we’ll work on at my networking retreat in Phuket in February-March. I’m putting together a small group of interesting people, and we’ll go there to level up, build connections, and have a lot of fun together. No boring business card exchanges, but more like a summer camp for high-level adults haha.

I’m also including a meeting with a billionaire, a behind-the-scenes look at how I do interviews, and a serious energy boost for everyone attending.

This is going to be an epic trip.
