Free Speech Ireland have organised a public meeting on the matter of the Bill, its problematic nature and what can be done to oppose it
Just setting up!

7pm Wynn's Hotel Tonight
Thank you for your speech yesterday Gerard. We had a voice of logic in the room last night, something sorely lacking in Leinster House.

Critics of the new hate speech bill say it will stifle public debate and end equality before the law by establishing privileged ‘victims’ based on individual or group characteristics

Thank you to all who attended our public meeting on Justice Minister Helen McEntee's Hate Speech Bill last night. We filled out the hotel conference hall and nearly ran out of standing space at the back!
Professor Gerard Casey and Mattie McGrath TD were our first two speakers. Casey, a Philosophy academic, criticized the bill for its logical inconsistencies, while McGrath outlined how it may be used to censor political opposition.
Irish Independent columnist Ian O'Doherty lamented how Cancel Culture ended the careers of many of his colleagues in Journalism. He was followed by Senator Sharon Keogan who warned of the "chilling effect" a Hate Speech law would have.
Ed Shanahan, a barrister and law academic, explained the legal reprecussions of a Hate Speech law, and how it may just be the first in a "floatilla" of legislation designed to remove the rights of Irish people.
It was astoundingly successful evening, and hopely the first of many such events we intend to host across the country.

"You cannot legislate for morality" - Profeesor Gerard Casey at Free Speech Ireland's public meeting on Helen McEntee's Hate Speech Bill

JOHN MCGUIRK: In the case of Leo Varadkar's indiscretion, as in so much, the Government's priority is to ensure that it is illegal for you to see or hear those things or arguments it fears you seeing, or hearing. They seek a new era of state censorship.

Born into slavery in Maryland in 1818, Frederick Douglass travelled to Ireland at age 27 to promote his autobiography and take refuge from slave hunters.

Douglas sought out Daniel O’Connell and upon meeting him, revealed he had heard O’Connell’s name cursed by his former slave-owning masters.
UCD’s Politics Society will host a panel discussion on freedom of speech and the implications of the Hate Speech Bill. Professor Gerard Casey will speak on behalf of Free Speech Ireland.

We encourage students to attend and our followers to reach out to students they know.
