* Fight Hate Speech Laws *
The Irish Department of Justice under the Fine Gael government have announced that they aim to introduce "Hate Speech" legislation to Ireland in early 2020.
Minister for Justice, Charlie Flanagan announced a "public consultancy" period would be ran between the 24th of October and 13th of December 2019.
It is crucial we make our rejection of such legislation clear between now and then.
Any kind of legislation to restrict speech in Ireland is at odds with Bunreacht na hÉireann and thus unconstitutional.
This legislation would allow for the prosecution of individuals who used speech deemed "hateful" under Irish law.
However Minister Flanagan and Fine Gael have not been able to define to the Irish public what is "hateful" or what "hate speech" is.
Minister Flanagan has given us no indication of what "Hate Speech" laws wish to achieve beyond protecting "vulnerable groups" in Irish society.
Legislating or restricting speech in any way is always wrong. We do not trust this government to implement such laws honestly or fairly.

In the Dep. of Justice's article on the upcoming Hate Speech bill @HMcEntee proposes prosecutors do not have to "get inside the mind" of a perpetrator at the time of offending.
This opens the door for individuals to be proesecuted for even telling jokes.

For evidence that Helen McEntee's Hate Speech laws may be applied selectively, we only need look at the cases of Glenn Miller and Hermann Kelly.
Both organised public protests during lockdown, as did BLM. However only Kelly and Miller face prosecution from the Dep of Justice.

Justice Minister McEntee and the government shamelessly use any incident of violent crime against a minority group to further their agenda of restricting Freedom of Speech in Ireland.
Lumping in speech with violence, in an attempt to push these "Hate Laws" through.

"As recently as 2018 the Irish public affirmed the right to free speech in the Blasphemy Referendum.
This government is seeking to restrict the speech of voters while members of the Dáil would have special protections for their own."
